COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

Maybe I’m a bit of a beerpatriot on this one. Oppigårds has made me very happy once again. This is an amazing American Pale Ale from Dalarna(!), Sweden(!).

33cL bottle, courtesy of blomster. Thanks, Christer! Pours a deep, clear golden-orange color; mixed-bubbled off-white head with decent retention and web-like lacing; persistent perimeter of foamy bubbles. Kind of a muted, herbal and minty aroma; a bit of doughy malts at the core; neither as crisp nor as bitter as one might hope; my guess is that this is an older bottle, and yet the description suggests this just came out on February 1st; odd; still, there’s a pleasant hop character here, and the malt core is more than basic sugar or wet malts. Medium body: as in the nose, there’s a rather pleasant hop profile of herbal notes and hints of citrus, but the bitterness is quite lax, probably too lax for the style and for my taste buds; the malt core is quite exposed, and there as some bready and cotton candy esters here that, while pleasant, aren’t necessarily as showcased as well as they could be; relaxed carbonation doesn’t help matters; this is still a rather tasty hop and malt profile, there are some resins here, but the bitterness just isn’t enough to keep me interested or to keep this from coming off as flabby overall. The finish is the most bitter aspect of this beer: herbal and nicely toasty.

OleR (4609) - Oslo, NORWAY - FEB 13, 2010
Bottle from Systembolaget. A two-finger offwhite head slowly fading to a layer of bubbles. Body is dark amber and shining. Rounded and delicate aroma of tropical, citrussy and floral hops. A subtle caramel scent in addition. Taste is a delicious blend of Amarillo fruitiness and refined caramell sweetness. Very soft and easy on the palate. Light bodied in fact, but not thin. Fruity bitterness lingers in the finish. A very nice one, well-crafted, easy drinkable and utterly sessionable.
