3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Glouglouburp (5572) - Montreal, Quebec, - NOV 16, 2012In short: A textbook example of a caramelized fruity resinous IPA. Good beer
How: Bottle 330ml. Consumed fresh a few days after purchase from a Swedish Systembolaget
The look: Clear deep golden body topped by a medium beige head
In long: The medium intensity hoppy nose is fruity hops (mangos, grapefruits, lemon zest, apricots) with hops resin. Taste has a typical but always pleasant toasted caramelized malts, very clean body, not too much caramel, fresh baguette bready sensation. And of course a generous amount of fresh fruity hops (mangos, grapefruits, lemon zest, apricots) with medium resinous character and also some green pine-needles. Bitterness level is pretty high and it is a bit sticky/resinous, tasty but not super-refreshing. This is once again a Swedish textbook example of the style, and that’s how I’ll remember my pub crawling and bottle shopping in Sweden, lots of expertly brewed quality clean beers, textbook examples that do not “try anything”. Very good beer even though I’ve probably had 50 very similar ones before. Another good beer from Oppigårds, one of the most popular micro in Swedish, a country where 4 out of 5 people make up of vast majority of the population.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Martinus (1795) - Nijmegen, NETHERLANDS - MAY 22, 2013
Clear amber colour, firm white head. Very fruity aroma, amarillo, apricot, grapefruit, caramel. After the initial lovelyness a hint of iron comes up in the nose. Malty flavour, bitter, fruity hops, hint of earl grey tea, lightly metallic. Rather thin body, finish hops, caramel, nice fruitiness, light iron.
Nice beer.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 Marstonlad (175) - Helsinki, FINLAND - MAY 17, 2013
Pours clear reddish copper with a mediocre white head. Aroma is very grassy and fruity - Amarillo hops are strongly present and bring citrus fruitiness. Taste is bitter, crisp and fruity. Citrus features with some grassy and floral hoppy notes. Light to medium bodied, slick mouthfeel, excellent drinkability. Hoppiness is quite strong. Nice, simple but rich taste: good Swedish take on the American Pale Ale style.

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 mcberko (4073) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - MAY 1, 2013
On two at The Bishop Arms Vasagatan, pours a hazy vibrant orange with a small off-white head. Aroma of caramel malts, metallic notes, and some floral notes -- a bit of a syrupy, metallic quality to it. Flavour is very rich and round for a pale ale, with notes of floral hops, dry caramely biscuity malts, and some woody notes. Very round and full-bodied for a pale ale. Exceedingly drinkable and well-balanced. Great stuff.

A beautiful copper colour and creamy head that lasts. Slight aroma of hops. Nicely ballanced taste with hint of citrus but enough sweetness. The finish is bitter but not overpowering. This beer is always in the fridge at home.
