Almost complete black color with a fine dense beige head. Good lacing. Coffee, a bit roasty and mild chocolate aroma. Really inviting. Medium (+) body. Fine balance between sweetness and bitterness. Soft carbonation and a bit creamy texture. Coffee, herbal, chocolate and some roasty notes in the flavor. Nice pleasant porter.

Bottle from Westside Renaissance Market in Ukiah, CA. Pours dark brown with a tan head. Aroma is chocolate with anise hints. Med body. Flavor is slightly earthy chocolate with anise. There must be hop, cause it’s mildly bitter. but I’m not getting any ideas about it. Somehow this is not interesting or exciting. Well, at least there’s chocolate.

@ John’s Grocery / Iowa City IA --- Opaque black with a thick deep tan head cover, curtain of lace. Taste is roasted malt that grows in the palate, adding mushroom, anise, and light fennel. The finish introduces very light bittering, which is sufficient. A solid everyday Porter.

Bottle. Pours opaque jet black with a pillowy, fine-grained, cinnamon-brown head; the head looks soft as velvet. Nose is coffee and dried fruit -- but there’s some interesting undertones to it; vegetal, Concord grape, mushroom, earth, and dark rum spring to mind. Rich and savory at the front of the mouth; despite the nose, it definitely leans more towards licorice, fennel, anise, and horehound rather than coffee or chocolate, and that results in an herbal complexity that’s refreshing. Finish is long and focused firmly on the licorice. This would definitely keep you warm during a long Scandinavian winter.

A choco-nut smell. So dark it can block out the sun with a medium viscosity. Taste starts out sharp nutty but ends with coco undertones and fades nicely. Light and wet on the palate for a dark beer. Over all a nice take on a porter.

Appearance: Dark Brown with small tan head.
Aroma: Dark dried fruit and cocoa.
Flavor: Roasted malt, coffee, licorice.
Palate: Full bodied, creamy texture.
Overall: Excellent porter, though expected a bit more alcohol.

16.9 oz bottle. Marked down to $3 at BOTW. Dark ruby color, decent expresso head. Coffee beans and wet straw in the nose. Light roasty flavor with some coffee and chocolate. A bit harsher in the finish than most porters.

bottle, unfiltered. deep brown body with a small mocha colored head. black patent malt consumes the nose (charcoal, soy sauce, licorice, ink). rich, sticky, chewy and somewhat oily texture; medium-high bitterness; medium-full body; some burnt grain astringency; medium-low carbonation with soft froth across the middle as the body thins across the back in a drying finish. residual oiliness coast the mouth with inky wood char and burnt clack currant esters.
