From bottle. Sweet nose with biscuit, caramel, mild oxidized ginger and root beer. Carbonic gaseousness. Papery hop note. The nose is probably past its prime. Dark coppery amber clear with rocky-foamy light tan lacing, lasting head. Medium body with very vigorous carbonation and carbonic tang. Starts nutty and dry with carbonic acidity, dusty grain and light roasted barley. Some spicy character, a little ginger. Spicy hop bitterness with bitter finish and after. Light sweet nutty after, too. Tastes pretty good but not one I’d drink frequently.

Songle bottle, Total Wine. Slightly hazy brown pour with a very slight ruby tinge and a big frothy head. Somewhat funky aroma - fruit and caramel notes but a little musty. Taste is pretty much malts and baking spices, a little grapefruit bitterness at the end. Medium body, silky mouthfeel. Highly sessionable.

2007: A reddish brown ale with a thin mocha head. In aroma, a light earthy sweet malt with watery sugar. In mouth, a sweet grassy malt with nutty notes, light coffee, not bad, like a nut brown...6 years old but not oxidized. Tasted with GRM March 1 2013.

Red-brown in colour. With almost no head at all. Some roasted malty aroma and some spicyness. Sweet malty flavour with some spices going over in a nice bitterness in the aftertaste.

Pours very dark amber / brown with a quickly leaving tan head. The aroma has lots of molasses, toffee, toasted malt and some nuttiness. Medium crisp body with extra amounts of sharp carbonation. The flavor starts out with the aroma traits, but thinner and lightly metallic. The finish is even more metallic and astringent. A decent aroma here, but the flavor doesn’t live up to it.

Bottle from SL, pour was deep amber to red, some brown hues too, decent initial head, diminishing, though, leaving only light lacing. The aroma was roasted malts, caramel, almost a touch of coffee. The flavor was roasted malts, touch of coffee, toffee to slight brown sugar, faint chocolate, no significant spicing, dry hoppy finish. Not my cup of tea or beer.

Bottle. Pours a dark reddish brown colour with beige head. Refreshing and a bit fruity on the nose - hops, some dried fruits and liquorice. Flavour is mostly about the hops. Also some roasted malts with some dried fruits (without the sweetness). The finish is quite dry and bitter, The aroma was superior to the flavour.

Deep brown coloured body with a hazy tan head. Aroma of light spice, roasted malt, coffee and some nuts. Medium to Full-bodied; Strong malty flavour with potent pit fruit sweetness from grapes and prunes on top of nutty characteristics. Aftertaste shows some of the alcohol, a bit of the carbonation and some of the sweetness. Overall, a pretty good beer, but nothing entirely special from a Winter from Europe. I sampled this 500 mL bottle purchased on sale for US$3.99 from Chevy Chase Wine & Liquors in Washington, D.C. on 03-May-2008, sampled on 26-May-2008 on the Eastern Shore of Virginia.

Bottle at tasting at Chris Fischer’s (from Liars Club) house. Pours with an amber body topped by a thin to medium thick head with some lacing. It’s slightly sweet and malty with a touch ofbread. Light to medium bodied, watery and smooth.
