Doesn’t look like much, laggerish light after initial foam.Somewhat cheesy aroma. The taste is somehwhat hoppy and refreshing. A natural casklike carbonation. Bit of light lemonlime aftertaste. Medium mouthfeel.

Pours dark mahogany with a beige head that leaves solid lacing behind. Smells of a Samuel Smiths beer, sort of minerally with an earthy hop nose. Malts are toasty and nutty, but still thin on the palate. Very similar to Samuel Smith winter warmer, but a touch more hops. The thin palate reminds me of oxidation, but doesn’t have the flavor, just the texture.

UPDATED: OCT 12, 2008 From a brown 12 ounce bottle - Pours a slightly cloudy orange/yellow color. Smells sweet and hoppy. Below average carbonation. First sip is all grassy hops but is certainly missing a needed stronger malt backbone.

50cl bottle - hazy amber, moderate lace - aroma is lightly spicy, herbal, biscuity, mildly estery, with some buttery diacetyl underneath - full, soft carbonation - some dry, crackery maltiness, with some moderate toffee sweetness underneath - some herbal, tea-like character - a bit of oiliness on the back end, and left behind on the lips - weird - diacetyl and bitterness on the end, a hint of peppery heat - fairly authentic, just not all that good.

From bottle. Sweet nose with biscuit, caramel, mild oxidized ginger and root beer. Carbonic gaseousness. Papery hop note. The nose is probably past its prime. Dark coppery amber clear with rocky-foamy light tan lacing, lasting head. Medium body with very vigorous carbonation and carbonic tang. Starts nutty and dry with carbonic acidity, dusty grain and light roasted barley. Some spicy character, a little ginger. Spicy hop bitterness with bitter finish and after. Light sweet nutty after, too. Tastes pretty good but not one I’d drink frequently.

Bottle:   Deep dark caramel, sparce off-white head, spotty lacing.   Leathery nose, barnish, somewhat musty.   This is another one of those bottles I held onto for a while.   I figure, watching a Swedish movie, why not have a Swedish beer.   Also has some of that powdery sugar like sweetness and slight lime coming through on the aroma.   Minor hop, some candyish sweetness, a little dry.   Doesn’t have any of that biscuity malt backing I expect from an English Strong Ale.   Average body, mouthfeel seems a little ho-hum.   I may have sat on this one too long?

Bottle. Head is initially average sized, frothy, light brown, mostly diminishing. Body is medium to dark amber. Aroma is lightly malty (toasted grain, caramel), moderately hoppy (apricot, grapefruit, resin), with notes of dried papaya, black tea. Flavor is moderately to heavily sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly acidic, moderately bitter. Medium body, watery/syrupy texture, lively carbonation, lightly to moderately alcoholic, lightly to moderately astringent. A bit rough in the mouth, but there is some aromatic allure. Overall forgettable, but not bad.

BeerSkull (1315) - SWEDEN - OCT 13, 2011
UPDATED: JAN 2, 2012 Malty hops aromatic scent with floral nuances. The taste is sweet with notes of floral and fruity hops and grainy caramel malt. Lingering dry hops bitterness in the aftertaste. OK!

Tap at Churchkey. Pours a clear red amber topped by a medium tan head leaving admirable yellowish sheets of lace. Nose is at first mild cheesy hops. Taste is straightforward bitter and astringent with small red fruits and a lot of tannic tea character. Over slatted grain feel. Too astringent. Hop presence is older and cheesy. Feels like a DIPA gone wrong. Sweaty and blander taste. Stinging, sharp carbonation. Mild paper character.
