A dark brown appearance with a ruby tint. A small sized beige head is present. The aroma is quite nice with some chocolate, raisins, molasses, and caramel. The flavor is a bit sweet with some milk chocolate, plums, raisins, and licorice and a hint of nutmeg. This is a complex beer to say the least. And a good choice for #1500!

Mahogany appearance with a fairly large, fast fading, tannish head and decent lacing. Dark fruit, molassas, soy sauce and caramel come through in the aroma. Sweet malty taste, subtly hopped, with notes of ripe fruit, nuts and toffee. Medium bodied, moderately carbonated mouthfeel. Finish turns drier with the hops being a little more apparent.

Sweetish malts and hops on aroma. Mild roasty flavours and a hint of smoke to go with nice, rounded malts although not so full-bodied. Finishes off with lovely hopping that mostly takes over the flavour but still quite delicate. Class act this is. A nice winter session ale.

16.9oz bottle. Thick super deep brown-red toffee stained-glass color. Fills the palate, very complete thick and malty beer. Semi-dry finish, super enjoyable. Mild spicing perhaps, more subtle than an Anchor Christmas but in the same genre of beers. Another quality beer from Scandinavia.

UPDATED: NOV 22, 2011 Amber colour, off-white head. Malt and grapefruit in the aroma with some spicy notes. The flavour is sweeter than your average Oppigårds but the bitterness still maintain the upper hand. Hefty.

500ml bottle. Pours a dark cloudy brown with a huge long lasting creamy tan head. Very good head retention and lacing through out. Aroma of dark roasted caramel malt, dark fruit, espresso and cacao esters fill the senses. Taste is roasted dark caramel malt, espresso beans and cacao, a bit of dark fruit with some mild bitterness. Palate is a full body, creamy texture with mild carbonation. Finish is of roasted dark caramel malt, yeast, espresso beans and cacao, some dark fruity notes ending has some mils bitterness with some lingering roasted espresso flavor. Overall a very good, flavorful and enjoyable brew, nice.

Garanterat!

Mahogany hue with a light haze. Persistent ivory foam spackle. Nicely balanced nose of English toffee, breadcrusty malt, spruce resin, strawberry jam, blood oranges, and peppery hops. Characterful puttylike yeastiness. Plentiful dextrins, to boot. Underlying plastic and red licorice. Soft and creamy on the tongue. Bottle-conditioned. Initially fluffy with dry breadcrusty malt coinciding with a bouncy base of toffee-drizzled nuts kissed with a drying spruclike hop whisper. Dab of roasty sharpness is artfully incorporated, exuding with just enough strength to enhance the delectably lush and clean base malt. Peppery, earthy hop bitterness is perfectly rigid and sports delicate leafy acid as well as complementary levels of resin. Remarkably ripe and luscious berrylike esters contribute juiciness and depth as well as contrasting vibrancy. Also some phenolics which lend character as well as vivacity, and beautifully contrasting dryness to the sturdy bread-laden malt. Closes with superbly clean dextrinous malt and an assertive push of earthy hop fervency. Aside from a bit too much emphasis on the resin/citrus, the aroma is a splendid showcase of fine-tuned malt. And awesome texture all around. This has all the qualities of a well-executed Rogue beer (particularly their Strong Ales), and is seemingly a nod to John Maier in all its characterful yeast (putty and pistachio), robust British hop signature and exemplary showcase of malt. A dead-on rendition.
