4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 ansermadide (1200) - Kyle, Texas, USA - AUG 19, 2012UPDATED: DEC 22, 2012 Mmmm... all of this awesomeness starts with a deep brown color and a light brown head. Looks great, and a little cloudy. Its aroma is soft and a little woody, but dominated by bourbon and a sweet, light roast. You get a plant-like whaft in the nose as it goes down the throat. Wow, what a nice mouth feel. It’s a little thin, but has a perfect roast presence, is easy and alcoholic, but nicely covered by the bourbon. Get enough of this in your mouth and it almost tastes like bourbon with a dash of water. Wowsers!

Extremely solid beer. Vanilla nad caramel overtake the rich cocoa and roasted malt.

Bottle. Very dark molasses brown with a thick light brown head. Early lace, decent retention for a barrel aged beer. Aroma is very sweet, with lots of bourbon and oak, underlying chocolate. Flavour showcases the barrel well, and in good balance with chocolate malts, some dark caramel, medium bitterness. Pleasant mouthfeel, nice carbo. Certainly sweet, but without any harsh booziness. I enjoyed this one.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 Steasy66 (542) - Minnesota, USA - OCT 30, 2012
Black with light tan head. Mild bourbon nose. More of a brown ale than a porter, malty taste with some barrel character. Low carbonation with medium body.

A: The beer pours a dark brown color with a small khaki colored head.
S: Definitely a bit of bourbon with only a mild vanilla aroma. Plenty of oak with just as much roasted malt to go along with it. There’s some hints of dark chocolate and coffee there, too.
T: The flavor is somewhat watery, though you can certainly still taste the bourbon. Lightly sweet with some toffee malt flavors and hints of plums. A bit of coffee, some chocolate, and very minimal vanilla.
M: Light bodied with medium to high carbonation.
O: Had some okay traits, but too many flaws to be all that good.

Found a bottle of this in my cellar. I don’t know what year it was brewed but it was a "#5". I suspect it’s a year or two old. Colour... jet black and very frothy! Nose... oak and Bourbon with lots of ethanol! Palate... semi viscous, sappy, bittersweet chocolate, loads of Bourbon (but not so much as to be volatile in the sinuses or lording over the other flavours), chocolate sirop, and hints of lactose on the end. Very nice stuff!
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Glouglouburp (5572) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - AUG 19, 2010
In short: A roasted dark port/stout with a lot of bourbon barrels. A pleasant but very basic example of the style
How: Bottle 22oz. Consumed a few months ago when about 1.5 year of age. Tasting session with Montreal crew
The look: Dark mahogany body topped by a medium beige head
In long: Nose is has a lot of bourbon barrels. Taste is very roasted, bourbon barrels, malt sweetness is brownies-like, light fruity notes. The finish is rather dry. No real alcohol noticeable. I liked the fact that I got bourbon barrels while not scarifying the roastiness and dryness. But overall the beer just wasn’t super interesting. Named after the main route used by the early north-western settlers. So important and busy this trail was that it led to many undocumented cases of trail rage.
