SuzyGreenberg (725), Seattle, Washington, USA May 16, 2008 22 oz. bottle, No. 4 - pours a deep, ruby brown, clear along the edges and a light tan head; bourbon smacks you right away and slightly overpowers any other aromas; body is thin, but lots of roasty character; some richness to it, but think the porter is a little overwhelmed in this one; have a No. 2 bottle as well, so will have to see how that differs apshah99 (51), Portland, Oregon, USA Apr 29, 2008 10.2 ABV, No 4.. Deep brown pour with thin tan head.Acoholic aroma with roasted malt and dark fruit. Tastes of roasted malt, bourbon and chocolate with vanilla and a little licorice. Nice hops in the finish. Delicious, with good carbonation and weighty mouthfeel. Slow drinker. blankboy (2356), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Apr 18, 2008 Bottle (22oz) shared with HogTownHarry, biegaman, IPFreely, rudolf & swoopjones -- courtesy of swoopjones. Pours a very dark deep ruby, almost black, with no head. Aroma seemed a little odd to me, it’s bourbony along with lightly roasted malt, vanilla and light hops and ...? -- there was something odd I couldn’t place. Flavour of lightly roasted malt, chocolate, bourbon, light hops and vanilla. Alcohol’s reasonably well hidden. Medium bodied. Not great, just pretty good. rudolf (1477), Buffalo, New York, USA Apr 18, 2008 Thanks to Swoopjones for sharing! Deep mahogany, ruby/amber where the light does shine through. Nose is vanilla tootsie rolls, alcohol, bourbon. Flavor is vanilla tootsie roll, lots of alcohol, sweet malt, chocolate. Lots of toffee, bitterness & alcohol tingliness in the finish. HogTownHarry (3043), Toronto (Harbourfront), Ontario, Canada Apr 17, 2008 Bottle (22oz - wax sealed). Shared with blankboy, biegaman, IPFreely and rudolf, swoopjones brung the bottle. Deep, nearly opaque ruby-black, with a small head (4-). My first reaction to the aroma was negative - very sharp, cheap strong bourbon, acidic roast, some acrid solvent/bleach character too - but it settled down some to booze, sweet bourbon, standard roast (coffee bean, some chocolate). The taste - sorry, it’s just too sweet, too bourbony - like a scorched Play-Doh liqueur with a hint of maple. Light-bodied, this was pretty slick and boozy on the palate with a long burnt alocholic finish. why do I keep drinking these frickin’ bourbon-aged beers? More to the point, why does everyone keep MAKING them????
