COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Amber Ale brewed with German smoked malt to give a pronounced, but well balance smoke profile. Fresh Jalapenos added during several stages of the brewing process gives this beer the bold Jalapeno flavor and aroma that marries perfectly with the smoke flavor from the malt.

Smells exactly like pepper jack cheese, with hints of some dry smoked salami beside it - all appealing so. Non-translucent muddy brown. Very underhanded flavor for the style, and smoothly cheesy. Smoke comes in more as the flavor dwindles into the palate. A bit low in viscosity, but the peppery flavor maintains enjoyably.

On tap at the Blackthorn Pub, Holly,MI...Lots of smoke upfront which I liked, but zero Jalapeno flavor or hottness which was disapointing. Also, this stuff is pretty sweet with a more of root beer flavor than beer. Overall, I liked its smokey, root beerish weirdness.

On tap at the brewery. Pours a clear medium amber color with no head. Aroma is smokey jalepenos. Taste is exactly like it smells. I like it more than I usually like pepper beers. The finish is smoother than the usual pepper beer but you still get a slight burning. Pretty decent.

This was a train wreck waiting to happen but somehow it came out decently. I’m not usually a fan of jalapeno infused beers. Somehow this one works OK; if not for the sharp bite in the finish it would be easy to drink a pint.

Aroma / Appearance - Dense bronze fluid sticks to the sides of the glass. Wispy head spreads around the top like tufts of clouds. The jalapeno is sharp even in the nose. Smoky peppers cooked for too long in the deep fryer stick in the air.

Flavor / Palate - The intensity is just as present in the mouthfeel. Biting back from the first sip there is no delay at all before it begins to burn the throat. There is a finish like cold cigarette ash for extra depth. Overall it isn’t bad but this type of beer is not my thing.

Draft… RBSG/MBGSF… Murky caramel-colored ale with a small, creamy, off-white head. Decent retention. The aroma is of a grass fire with smoked meat and a hint of caramel thrown in. Medium-bodied with a lightly creamy mouthfeel and subdued carbonation. The well-balanced, chipotle-like flavor offers loads of tasty malt and peppery warmth. Finishes crisp, mildly smoky and lightly sweet.

I strangely liked this beer. Jalapeno is very apparent. The smoke is overpowering. Tastes like drinking a campfire.

Sample at OG. Pours a hazy light brown with a medium beige head. Smoky aroma, but not quite hammy. Also a not-so-subtle note of dried hot peppers. Flavor of smoke (but once again not completely smoked meat; more like half ham and half smoked cheese without the creaminess) and dried jalapeno. Tastes like smoked pepperjack and I don’t really mind it. Bizarre brew that I was wary of trying, but glad I did.

Enjoyed at Ashley’s in Ann Arbour, this jalepeno beer was spot on. Smoke aroma. Golden head with some black spots in it, and a white bubbly Caesar crowning head. Great jalepno taste and a smok bite, although it finishes weaker overall, the Jalapeno spice remains with you. The mouthfeel was a tad below average.

Tap at Ashley’s. Poured dark red with a beige head. Aroma immediately reveals that this is not a normal smoked beer but that it has a little extra as the aroma gives a smokiness and a kick of jalapeno. My first sip revealed a different beer with a nice spice flavor. But as I continued to sip on my pint, it became clear that this beer may be okay to taste, but tough to take a whole pint of. For me it is interesting but way to over powering. Its kind of like having your nachos and drinking them too.

UPDATED: APR 20, 2012 Growler. Thanks James!! Flickr (http://www.flickr.com/photos/26049401@N08/368 All I know is that this is a smoked beer and that an additional ingredient is a surprise. The nose immediately reveals peppers. Something along the line of chipotle or fire-chared poblanos, maybe one hotter than that. It smells incredibly rich though, lots of spiciness, depth of smoke, and unique character. Fun. Pours a dark reddish copper, with a khaki head. Flavor perks up and heads straight into mild smoke and heavy pepper, but somehow balanced. I usually don’t like pepper beers. I like this. It’s well played. A little bit of a heat, a little bit of charred pepper flesh, a little bit of smoke malt. I can’t wait to try this with some food. Awesome.
