Poured on tap into a pint glass. Standard dark brown porter color. It looked a bit thin and tastes thin. Also very standard coffee and chocolate taste. It did have a bit of bitter hop kick at the end. Kind of plain but very drinkable.

Served on draft at the Michigan Summer Beerfest, 2010, as part of RBSG festivities. Pours a hazy amber color with a medium creamy head. Good head retention and lacing. Malty and fruity aroma with nutty notes as well as toffee and apple. The taste is caramel, stone fruits, faint nuts and hops. Bitter finish. Medium bodied.

While the IPA was great the porter is just a little thin, still good but just a little thin, color dark amber and enoigh smoke

5th Annual MBG Winter Beer Festival, Grand Rapids. Murky dark brown body, thin cream head. Coffee, toasty nose. Dry, slightly tangy body with coffee and roasted malt. Mediocre.

Sample at OG. Black pour with a thick tan nitro head. Roasted malt and coffee in the aroma with a bit of that undesirable metallic nitro character, but not too much. Roasted malt flavor with a hint of chocolate and a creamy coffee finish that’s a tad thinner than I would have liked. Still a decent brew though, and probably the best they had this evening (no Vanilla Java Porter).

Sampled at the 09 MBG Summerfest. Very dark brown pour with some mahogany highlights and a thin tan head. This had tons of super rich coffee roast with some nice notes of cocoa powder and brown sugar and a bitter coffee finish. The body is creamy and full with soft carbonation.

Tap at Ashley’s. Poured black with a full brown head. Aroma consisted of smokey dark malts, quite one note. Flavor matches the aroma quite well with a smokey dark flavor, though again not too complex.

xnoxhatex (1305) - Grand Rapids/Chicago, Michigan, USA - JUL 25, 2009
Dark brown, opaque with creamy tan head. Aroma is light roast with dry coffee, very light. Flavor is coffee, espresso, chocolate, some smoke dry. Medium and light carbonation. A bone dry smoked porter.

Dogbrick (7973) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - DEC 4, 2008
Sample at the brewpub: This beer pours a not-quite-opaque black color with a thin beige head that recedes steadily. Spotty lacing on the glass. Roasty aroma of coffee and malt, with touches of chocolate. Medium, dry body with a nice roasted coffee character. Notes of dark malt and chocolate are present too. The finish is moderately bitter coffee and hops. Decent overall.
