Ritterguts Gose is a top-fermenting, sour and slightly salty tasting special beer of Leipzig. The Gose is an own, very old beer type and does not correspond to the German purity requirement. It is brewed traditionally with coriander and salt - thereby and by the additional lactic acid fermentation her quite special characteristic gets the Gose. It has certain resemblances to the Lichtenhainer beer as well as to the Belgian Geuze.

Bottle share...thanks Dan! Poured into snifters at home. Looks like a pilsner pour with golden colors and a think white head. Some lacing. Aroma of sour funk, yeasts and some cereal. Tastes of mostly sour apples and pears with a salty finish. Also you get a cereal/bread body with a grain finish. I’m not huge into this style but I enjoyed this quite a bit.

Pours cloudy light straw yellow. Aroma is dominated by sour fruit (apricot, pear, citrus) and funky yeast. Taste is sour, then salty (!), with a mild yeasty finish. The sour and salty combo is really unique. Mouthfeel is full but not syrupy. Delicious and refreshing. Would love to try more in this style.

Sampled at Nærbø Ølfestival 2013. Clear yellow golden body with a white head. Quite mild in aroma, malt, fruit and slightly acidic. Light and refreshing in flavor, mild malt, some fruit with a hint of acidity and salt. Medium body and a bit short in aftertaste. Decent, but I have had better versions of Gose.

On tap at Lord Hobo - malted, lightly apple nose with some saltiness coming through. Fruity, slightly tart body with a supremely salted mouthfeel that lasts through the finish. More pucker on the palate with lemon and salt finishing. Yum!

Light golden, hazy. No foam but high carbonation. Weak but pleasant apple aroma, slightly sour. Moderate sour taste with some smoke and salt hints.

0.5l bottle. A cloudy deep golden colored one with a nice medium sized bright white head that’s leaving some nice lacing down the side of the glass. It smells light grains, a little bit of semi dark malts, light floral, metallic with some sweetness from the malts. Imo not utterly inviting or fantastic, more fair+. Lots of sourness in this. Like unripe sour gooseberries mixed with white currants - the sourness, not the fruitiness. It has a surprisingly good mouthfeel for being such a light beer, and the carbonation level is about average and small bubbly. Have to admit that it is quite interesting this. It can in some ways remind me of a bretted one this. Sour leafs stalks with a fibrous texture. Almost the same kind of rhubarb sourness perhaps? The light salty hint is actually quite nice also. Leaving my mouth light dry, smelling of grains and tasting like banana/yogurt smoothie. Not something I feel like drinking loads of, but a really interesting little thing this. 07.08.2013

Hazy blond color, it has a greenish hue, with small head. Aroma of malt, straws, light coriander, very light plastic. Lean mouthfeel, it had a mild wheat flavor, light spicy touch, evident saltiness, and light fruity vein; the bitterness is medium-low. Elegant mild acid touch.
Refreshing and clean; it would pair food well.

Bottle: The aroma consists of light-moderate lemon, apple, coriander the and a touch or grain. It pours a cloudy dull orange with a two finger white head that has pretty good retention. There’s is some sporadic dotted lacing left on the sides of the glass. The flavor starts with a quick dose of citrus, wheat, and faint apple. The finish has light-moderate sour lemon with light salt and mineral flavors. It’s medium bodied with mild carbonation.
