Ritterguts Gose is a top-fermenting, sour and slightly salty tasting special beer of Leipzig. The Gose is an own, very old beer type and does not correspond to the German purity requirement. It is brewed traditionally with coriander and salt - thereby and by the additional lactic acid fermentation her quite special characteristic gets the Gose. It has certain resemblances to the Lichtenhainer beer as well as to the Belgian Geuze.

Tap at Novare Res. Purs pale golden with an effervescent white head. Aroma is wet hay, wheat, yeast funk. This has more of a sour bite than other gose I have had. Yogurt like sour, wheat, salt. Not as carbonated as Lost Nation. Pretty refreshing.

18.01.2014. 0,5l Bottle. Spesialbutikkeb Vaaland, Bryne. Yellow colour wuth white head. Dor and salty! Very fresh and easy drinkable beer. Sour aromas with acidic notes of yeast and salt. At the end the bitterness is good with a fresh aftertaste. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Slightly sour nose with hints of lactic notes, lemon. Hazy golden with slight lacing. Taste is slightly sour at first and then the salt kicks in. Wheat malts with mild yeast. Nice, refreshing.

@ Sergio’s / Louisville (including authentic glassware) - Slightly hazy old gold with a solid head cover, blobs of lace. Taste is full of sour malt that moves smartly through the palate to a tart, cleansing finish. Excellent gose, terrific thirst quencher, great with food, well worth seeking out.

Bottle. Pours hazy golden with an airy head. Aroma is sour and funky with very light woody notes and some whiffs of salt. Surprisingly full body with soft carbonation. Flavour is tart with notes of wood and white wine, as well as grapes. Sour finish.

500ml bottle pours hazy toasted orange with little head. Nose is tart clementine and lemon, cereal. Taste is tart fruity lemon, citrus, orange, cereal, grain. Finish is cereal malt and tart lemon, salty notes, lasting lacto tartness. Very good.

Had on tap in Leipzig, Germany at the Biergarten where it’s served. Was going to the brewery, but they don’t have a tasting room/garten. A: Golden ale with a single finger of fine and near whipped quality foam of whiteness which falls over several minutes to a sheet of the same. Spotty and loose lacing. Hazy, as expected. S: Bread, a little intense in the nose than anticipated. Pretty empty, but when smelled, reminiscent of a fresh ocean breeze (salinity is evident). Warming and earthy, the nose is really nice when I get it (but I’m surrounded by about five burning cigarettes, so I can’t take away much on the points here). T: Nicely tart, woody, earthy and yeasty. The earthiness is of sand and wheat and salt. This is fun, and I think better than Bayischer Banhof’s version at the other end of town. A little more tart, a little better on the salt approach (these guys add salt after boil vs. Bayerschif who adds during boil). M: Thin with fine and ticklish carbonation. Finish is a bit warm, very surprised in this given the lower ABV. Dry finish as well. O: Good. The only thing missing here is a hint of coriander to help fully round this one out. I think a blend of the two Gose’s from the region would be a good drink. This one is preferred though. Serving type: on-tap 06-24-2011
