COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Ritterguts Gose is a top-fermenting, sour and slightly salty tasting special beer of Leipzig. The Gose is an own, very old beer type and does not correspond to the German purity requirement. It is brewed traditionally with coriander and salt - thereby and by the additional lactic acid fermentation her quite special characteristic gets the Gose. It has certain resemblances to the Lichtenhainer beer as well as to the Belgian Geuze.

0.5l bottle. A cloudy deep golden colored one with a nice medium sized bright white head that’s leaving some nice lacing down the side of the glass. It smells light grains, a little bit of semi dark malts, light floral, metallic with some sweetness from the malts. Imo not utterly inviting or fantastic, more fair+. Lots of sourness in this. Like unripe sour gooseberries mixed with white currants - the sourness, not the fruitiness. It has a surprisingly good mouthfeel for being such a light beer, and the carbonation level is about average and small bubbly. Have to admit that it is quite interesting this. It can in some ways remind me of a bretted one this. Sour leafs stalks with a fibrous texture. Almost the same kind of rhubarb sourness perhaps? The light salty hint is actually quite nice also. Leaving my mouth light dry, smelling of grains and tasting like banana/yogurt smoothie. Not something I feel like drinking loads of, but a really interesting little thing this. 07.08.2013

Hazy blond color, it has a greenish hue, with small head. Aroma of malt, straws, light coriander, very light plastic. Lean mouthfeel, it had a mild wheat flavor, light spicy touch, evident saltiness, and light fruity vein; the bitterness is medium-low. Elegant mild acid touch.
Refreshing and clean; it would pair food well.

Bottle: The aroma consists of light-moderate lemon, apple, coriander the and a touch or grain. It pours a cloudy dull orange with a two finger white head that has pretty good retention. There’s is some sporadic dotted lacing left on the sides of the glass. The flavor starts with a quick dose of citrus, wheat, and faint apple. The finish has light-moderate sour lemon with light salt and mineral flavors. It’s medium bodied with mild carbonation.

Duft av salt og humle. Fin lys honning farge. Lite skum, litt langs kant. Litt sur søt salt smak. Friskt og godt. En fin litt bitter salt/syrlig ettersmak.

Clear gold with some spitty white head. Nose is very salty, honey comb, lemon, straw, some sweat, a hint of butyric acid. Flavor is ok but simple, sweet, malt, straw, lemon, acetic acid, less earthy. Clean finish.

An excellent beer was perfect for a fall afternoon. I could drink this almost any time because the balance of sessionability, flavor, and complexity means the only limiting factor would be my liver and wallet. I hope some American brewers tackle the style as I’d love to see it more accessible than a handful of German imports.

Aroma / Appearance - A lemony base is transparent and accented by a crisp white head. Salt sprinkled on lemon peels makes it smell like a margarita at a beach resort. This is a perfect balance of sour, sweet, and salty.

Flavor / Palate - Lemon zest, sea salt, and a wave of low key sweetness play nicely against each other. Fluid and light in nature it proves that making something more sour does not always improve the experience. If I could get this locally I’d probably share it with non-beer friends to show them it is more than just "fizzy yellow water".
