COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Ritterguts Gose is a top-fermenting, sour and slightly salty tasting special beer of Leipzig. The Gose is an own, very old beer type and does not correspond to the German purity requirement. It is brewed traditionally with coriander and salt - thereby and by the additional lactic acid fermentation her quite special characteristic gets the Gose. It has certain resemblances to the Lichtenhainer beer as well as to the Belgian Geuze.

Pours to a beautiful, hazy deep golden color with a thick, bright white head, and a lively carbonation. The nose on this beer is fantastic with lots of spicy coriander aromas, and citric/fruity aromas. The palate if round and fruity on the palate, with some good flavors of tart and quenching wheat malt, and more citric/lemon/fruity character. It finishes with more tart and quenching character up front, then ends with a very salty finish that lingers. This beer was so refreshing, delicious, unique, and impressive. It has much in common with a classic Belgian wit, more so than any German wheat beer, but is unlike any beer I have ever tasted. I was really surprised and pleased with the salty finish in this beer. It was kind of like a salt rimmed Margarita, you really get that salty flavor along with the citrus and spice. Incredible if you really analyze it.

On tap (0.3 l) at Zills Tunnel, Leipzig... Clody golden color, average head... Smells quite sour. Intensive sour aroma of green lemons... Refreshing, very sour, taste... Average ending... Interesting white beer alternative...

Big slightly bubbly longlasting head. Aroma is kind of strange, puffed rice, popcorn, sulfur, cereal, hay, salt. Taste is slightly sour-ish, light malts, sorrel, apple skin, grass, lemon, salt, grain, popcorn. Medium bitterness. If only the aroma had been a lot better, then this one would have been really nice.

Bottle from Matkroken Natland, Bergen. A Gose! In a Norwegian grocery store! Hell must be freezing over...so much fun! :-D Pours a clear deep golden body with a small white head. Nose is pale malts, sweet-fruity yeast tones and faint, yet perceivable notes of coriander and salt. Subtle and inviting. Taste is sour lactic grain notes, fresh leafy grass, pale malts and hints of citrus and salt. Medium to light body, medium carbonation. Subtle in its composition, yet complex and utterly, surprisingly drinkable - this is German beer at its finest. I could really drink this all day long and wish more session beers were in this kinda neighborhood. Thanks to the fine fellas at Beer Enthusiast for bringing this gem (and the otherwise hyper-obscure genre) to Norway - chin chin! :-)

Pale copper thin head. Wet farmy scents. The taste starts with a sour bitter bite then the slat comes out and owns the flavor. The mouth is left stained with a delicious sea water taste.

Drank out of a bottle. A: slight sour note, touch of green Apple and pear, smallest amount a coriander. A dry earthy smell. A: golden color, fast disappearing white head. Slightly hazy. T: salty, grainy, pear, beachwood, slight sour note, very little coriander on the back end. P: watery mouthfeel, little carbonation, very interesting salt, then sour bite with a nice slight coriander tang. O: interesting beer, a little salty for my taste, I enjoy the conflict of salt dryness, sour bite, and coriander tang. Fun to drink in occasion

Like the spooky top hat dude on the label and the hard to read font too. Pours a medium orange color. The aroma is in the ballpark of a Berliner Weisse with some Belgian funk added but the taste is really, really dry. Puckery but not sour. I get a touch of salt but I actually taste more cinnamon for some reason. After that a touch of white wine acidity creeps in. Quite a complex beer.

Tarnished brass, slightly hazy with a large bubble white head. Bazooka bubblegum aroma. Mildly sour/salty flavors with a mild malt backdrop. A beer to be drunk with fries/chips.

UPDATED: APR 17, 2014 Rerate.18.04.14. Har betydelig bedre følelse for ølen denne gangen. Smaker friskt og forfriskende. Mye bedre enn en simpel pils.Flaske fra esp0r. En merkelig øl men salt og koriander. En slags mild surøl fra Leipzig . Hodet sier spennende men magen skriker nei. Gyllen farge med et tynt skumlag. Syrlig smak med salt smakmog urter. Kommer ikke til gjenta denne ølen.28.

pour is slightly hazed amber with a filmy white head. The nose has grain notes up front, candied sugar, lemon, light sea salt. Taste is very sour and much more sweet. more lemon and some tangerine. Grain notes are almost gone, salt comes in towards the back of the palate. Light body, very dry assertive carbonated finish.
