Ritterguts Gose is a top-fermenting, sour and slightly salty tasting special beer of Leipzig. The Gose is an own, very old beer type and does not correspond to the German purity requirement. It is brewed traditionally with coriander and salt - thereby and by the additional lactic acid fermentation her quite special characteristic gets the Gose. It has certain resemblances to the Lichtenhainer beer as well as to the Belgian Geuze.

Aroma is yeast, citrus and light minerals. The flavor is citrus/orange, mineral/salt qualities and a very sour finish.

Bottle from Bine & Vine. Pours light amber with a white head. Aroma is hinting at citrus with a very light earthy note. Med + body. Flavor is citrus/salt with some definite lactic earthy sour. Quite firm that. It finishes lactic earthy. Nice variation on Belgian earthiness. Finishes tart with salt to put it another way.

One of the best goses you will find out there. The Germans are slowly but surely realizing that they need to keep up somehow with the rest of the craft beer world, and I think the gose might just be the ticket. A wonderfully floral nose that doesnít smell like a sour, but more bready. The beer is definitely sour, but the sourness lingers on the palate while the malt fades away, making the beer quite refreshing. People think that using salt is odd in a beer - theyíre wrong. Itís perfect -it counters the sweetness of the beer and makes you thirstier, so you drink more. Brilliant! This brew is so refreshing and easy to drink, itís no surprise that these guys and Freigeist are taking the U.S. by storm less-traditional German breweries.

Hereís to one of my most sought after beers being imported!
Pours a lightly hazy pale golden, lots and lots of tiny bubbles though out, with a nice big head.

The aroma has a nice husky graininess with some light yogurt & lemon notes. Some light toasty grain and peppery notes are there as well.

The sourness of the flavor here is just spot on for what I look for in a one of these German style sour beers. Lactic and tart with a nice lemony character that character that you get in a very good batch of homebrewed yogurt. Iím not catching much of the spice or salt character but the nice clean maltiness and light fruity character are very complimentary to the sour character of the beer.

Palate is light and lively.

Very refreshing.

Bottle from the Cubes. Expected hazy, yellow body with golden hues. Fluffy white head dissipates slowly and remains clingy. Pleasant, sweet apple aroma with light lactic sourness. Fuller apple flavor with some faint spicy notes and a playful, relatively light sourness. Medium body with bubbly carbonation. Sourness leaves a little slickness. Overall an extremely tasty beer and very repeatable!

Tap at Angels Trumpet. The old me would not seek out flights of low alcohol brew but here i am being semi-responsible at least on first flight. Pours cloudy orange and is darker than i was expecting. nose is lemony lactic fun. tastes of bread, yeast, salty, light coriander, earth, and some citrus. interesting drinkable brew that finishes slightly sour

Bottle from Star Grocery, Berkeley. Pours clear copper with an attractive beige head and a fruity aroma. There is an acidic fruit flavor that does taste a bit like gueuze, but not as fruity. Leaves salt on the palate.

Sampled in a big bottle. Was recommended as it was an original version of a sour. Really enjoyed this beer which was refreshing and citrus base. Very nice brew. Would certainly try to find again.

On tap at Blue Monk in Buffalo, NY. I had never heard of this before, but decided to give it a try. It wasnít as sour as I was expecting...a little bit of fruit flavor in it, maybe some peach or sweet citrus. Had a little bit of sour bite in the finish, but nothing overpowering. Would be a decent intro to more-sour beers for a newer beer aficionado (this is a compliment, not a detraction).

Pour a pale orange. Quite cloudy, though thatís not exactly a surprise after following the labelís advice to stir up the yeast before pouring. Foamy white head. Decent retention. Lemony lactic-forward aroma. Some coriander and brine. Some nice fruity malt flavors in the background - apricot and blackberry. Taste is lactic tart with some nice spice and fruit flavors and a salty undercurrent. Itís quite yogurty lactic. Like unsweetened yogurt mixed with lemon rind. Little to no malt sweetness and absolutely no hop character. Light to medium mouthfeel. Thereís a little body to the beer, but itís pretty crisp. The lack of malt sweetness makes the beer feel quite clean. Fun beer. Always nice to find a gose. This would be a fun beer to pair with food.
