3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 Mortlach (745) - Rome, ITALY - MAR 16, 2013
17/03/2013 Ma che siete venuti a fà (tap). Dorata, pallida, limpida, schiuma abbondante e persistente.

classic example of the style. starts very clean, slightly tart, salt adds a barely perceptible salinity, and there’s a touch of funky grain mustiness in the finish. bit of a creamy mouthfeel.

500 ml bottle from Bieropholie, served at cellar temperature in a tulip glass. 21DE12.
App.: Clear amber with a large off-white froth.
Aroma: Plenty bright and acidic, minerals, maybe some touches of tart fruitiness, very dry white wine, a bit friendlier maltiness underneath, wheat.
Palate: Medium body, moderate effervescence.
Flav.: Biscuit and wheat and bread crust struggling beneath assertive acidity, bright fruitiness works hard to be recognized, wow; dry with minimal bitterness and strong tartness, with a pleasant fruity finish.
Holy cow. I mean, heilige Kuh.

UPDATED: MAR 12, 2013 Draft: Deep golden pour. Smell is slightly vinegary with spice. Falvor is lactic, very nice sourness that overrides the base beer in a pleasant way. One of the most thirst-quenching beers.
Bottle: Hazier golden pour. Smell is initially spice and malt. As you whiff more the lactic acid comes in. Fruitiness, bread, light funk, and noble hops round it out. The body seems lighter in the bottle. Wheat notes with a ton of lactic sourness. The saltines is thirst-quenching rather than savory. The corriander is very mild. If you like a light, sour thirst-quencher this is it. Just a bit pricey.

Lactic, buttery, savory, lemon citrus, wheat aromas and flavors, with juicy, balanced, mouthwatering tartness. Delicious, light, dry and refreshing. Super easy to drink.. The 500ml bottle was drained in minutes... I need a growler of this.. A good food beer.

Max’s Taphouse, Baltimore, tap: Pours hazy yellow with a white head. Aroma is lemon, wheat, and some peculiar yeast. Taste is slightly soured. The salt is pretty minimal, but noticeable. There is a nice amount of spice. Ridiculously easy to chug. A good gose, with a good balance.

Draught in a flight. Pours a clear light amber color with a moderate white head. Nose is slightly sweet, almost like a lager. Taste has some citrus in there with just a bit of a bit. Interesting...

On tap at Max’s in Baltimore. Slightly orange yellow pour with a thin white head. Aroma is lactic, tangy, grainy, slightly spicy. Flavor is less tart than I anticipated, and only slightly salty. Thin, crisp, refreshing. Good beer.
