Ritterguts Gose is a top-fermented, sourish and slightly salty-tasting ale that was first brewed in 1824. It is the beer specialty of Leipzig and the oldest still existing Gose brand in the world. Gose is an own, ancient style of beer that does not correspond to the German purity law. Even today, it is still brewed with an admixture of coriander and salt in the traditional way with the special historic Gose yeast in open fermentation. Its particular character our Gose gets thereby and by the additional lactate fermentation.
World Beer Awards London: World’s Best Gose 2013, Europe’s Best Gose 2014, World Beer Idol 2016: Gose Gold, World Beer Cup 2016: Bronze Medal
Brewed by Hartmannsdorf until 2014 (until 2007 @3.9%), brewed by Reichenbrand in Chemnitz from 2015.

bottle. Lightly hazy golden with one finger head. I’ve had plenty of gose style beers at this point, but I don’t think I’ve ever had the traditional German version. Lightly tart with lemon and mild coriander. Slightly funky. Salt brings out a nice fruitiness. I really liked this.

0,5 l Flasche. Aussehen wie naturtrüber Apfelsaft, Schaum verschwindet fast sofort. Geschmacklich dann wie vergorener Apfelsaft. Absolut nicht mein Geschmack.

Slightly hazy deep gold with a thin white ring. Weird nose of salty sour Pilsner. Dry salty body with lemon zest and classical German pale malt and loads of Pilsner. Touch of sulphur and salt.

(Bottle) Golden colour with frothy, white head. Malty, fruity nose with lemon, hay, coriander, grass and bread. Fruity, tart taste with notes of lemon, bread, apple juice, hay, coriander, a touch of salt and a dry tart taste with low bitterness. Medium body, really dry. Tart, dry and refreshing. Tasty and nice one.

On tap @ Erzbierschof Winterthur. First of all: This is one of my all-time favorites, despite the fact that I usually fancy stouts over other kinds. Probably the most refreshing and drinkable beer there is. Appearance is cloudy yellow with a thick but quickly disappearing head. Many flowery and herbal notes as well as a slight tartness. Taste is very light in general; tad bit salty, very slight sourness, flowers, sour wheat, fruity. Amazing.
