Ritterguts Gose is a top-fermenting, sour and slightly salty tasting special beer of Leipzig. The Gose is an own, very old beer type and does not correspond to the German purity requirement. It is brewed traditionally with coriander and salt - thereby and by the additional lactic acid fermentation her quite special characteristic gets the Gose. It has certain resemblances to the Lichtenhainer beer as well as to the Belgian Geuze.

UPDATED: JUL 17, 2014 Sampled @ RBBSG III. Clear light orange color, small off-white head. Smell and taste are a bit sourish like green apple peel. Dry finish. Hmm not really my kind of beer.

Bottle, trade with McTapps. Body pours in cloudy, pale to hazy yellow with low to medium creamy white head. Aroma has light sourness right away with sweet malty finish, on the background citrus and peach. Taste has light milky sourness, balanced with honey sweetness. Spruce, pine after taste. Body is medium, refreshing, little bit dry with high carbonation.

Draft at Strangeloves. Hazy orange amber pour with a decent foamy white head. Juicy medium-light toasted flavors with a sour spike and a definite salty character. Bright lady apples. Peach fuzz. Sour caramel apples. Orange marmalade. Cloves. Apricot pits. Sweet, sour and salty in largely the same measure. Makes for a worthy brew.

Bottle pours hazy gold with white head. Aromas change with temperature. Originally root cellar, vegetables, straw, lemon. As it warms up a bit, it loses most of the pungent aromas and becomes more lemon, cloves, banana, wheat. Light/medium tart and sweet. A little bit salty and bitter. Light, crisp body.

Bottle. Pours clear straw yellow with no head. Aroma is very clean lactic and dusty dry grain. Flavor is very a little salty, light fruit and grain sweet, and moderately lactic. Feel is light, lively, sour salivating, watery. Pretty simple but very enjoyable.

50cl bottles both shared and downed alone in pressing summer heat. Admire the full-fledged historicism of the label, in line with reviving this style far beyond the confines of its TV Pilsner Hinterland. Upfront concentrated coriander and pleasant whisps of saltiness dominate the aroma, coating the flat wheyish lactic acids, near-invitingly. Taste is comparable: the rougher edges of a Berliner Weisse kept in check by the spice, guaranteeing high drinkability, almost crisp palate. Perfect balance makes up for the lacking complexitity of this excellent single-purpose thirst quencher. Such a shame this is nowhere to be found on tap within DE, bottles mostly to be had from the ostalgic ossiladen.de.
