Ritterguts Gose is a top-fermented, sourish and slightly salty-tasting ale that was first brewed in 1824. It is the beer specialty of Leipzig and the oldest still existing Gose brand in the world. Gose is an own, ancient style of beer that does not correspond to the German purity law. Even today, it is still brewed with an admixture of coriander and salt in the traditional way with the special historic Gose yeast in open fermentation. Its particular character our Gose gets thereby and by the additional lactate fermentation.
World Beer Awards London: World’s Best Gose 2013, Europe’s Best Gose 2014, World Beer Idol 2016: Gose Gold, World Beer Cup 2016: Bronze Medal
Brewed by Hartmannsdorf until 2014 (until 2007 @3.9%), brewed by Reichenbrand in Chemnitz from 2015.

Bottle. Orange color with thin head. Aroma is sourish, some spicy notes. Taste is heavy sour with salty notes. Easy, refreshing drink. But very special and unusual. Not for me, you should get use for that taste, but definitely it was interesting experience.

Citrus aroma with tones of bread. Pours light golden with a white head. Slightly sour taste, but not overwhelming. Koriander finish, some salt. Feels thin and quite lively. Long after taste. Very different from what I expected, I like this.

Bottle thanks to LukasMH at Mikkeller bar Aarhus. Pours an almost clear golden with a big, white head. Looks nice. Aroma has lemony tart notes, light wheaty grain, lactic funk and definitely some floral or herby notes. Taste is pretty tart and citric. Lots of coriander spice, lemony tartness, lactic tartness and a slightly grainy finish, but not at all as bad as it often gets. Pretty salty as well. Medium high carbonation and a light, but not watery body. Much better than expected!

UPDATED: MAY 29, 2016 Bottle into wine glass. Hazy yellow, slight bit if head dissipates quickly. Lot of stuff clearly floating in the bottle that doesn?t make it out in the first pour. Dry, cider like nose with some minerals, maybe like a nice sea breeze. Mostly sour in the mouth, with more mineral amd the barest hint of coriander in the edge. Fast refreshing finish. Not a lot of complexity, but refreshing if you like sour.

Cloudy light golden orange, minimal light head. Light tartness, fruit. Light citrus. Moderately sweet. Medium body, medium finish. Pleasant amount of carbonation. Not particularly complex. Good.

Golden yellow to orange beer with small bubbly head that went away in seconds. Aroma has sourness, but not apples (although this resembles a lot of dry cider in a way) more like some berry or something else. Taste is first sour, then a bit salty and ending with nice combination of both. Some fruit notes are there but they’re not that distinguishable. Light body and low carbonation, it’s almost like some sour juice. Not bad but strangely different.
