Ritterguts Gose is a top-fermented, sourish and slightly salty-tasting beer that was first brewed in 1824 – it’s the special beer of Leipzig! The Gose is an own, very old type of beer that does not correspond to the German purity law because Gose is much older than it. Even today, it is still brewed with an admixture of coriander and salt in the traditional way with a special yeast in open fermentation. Its particular character our Gose gets thereby and by lactate fermentation during the maturing.

Brewed by Hartmansdorf until 2014, brewed by Reichenbrand in Chemnitz from 2015

On tap at Apex, pours a cloudy golden with a small white head. Aroma brings out a nice tart wheatiness, some salt, and some citrus. Flavour is similar, with rock salt, citrus and wheat. Just a hint of tartness. Clean, salty and wheaty. Very solid gose.

50 cl bottle. Translucent amber with a lasting ring and small islands of foam. Nose is pretzel and old caramel apple. Tastes of lightly salted wheat cracker with mildly sour lemon and a balancing dab of toffee apple. Light body tilts to the refreshingly astringent side with a medium-high, tingly carbonation.

Oh yes, this is a fine Gose. Salt fills your mouth, lactic acid runs down your throat. Edgy. You got to love this.

Bottle from Julio’s. Pours out a murky light amber color with a thin lacy head that fades to almost nothing. Funky aromas. Slightly fizzy. Flavor is tart and fruity with a hint of salt and spice. Thin, acidic sweet finish.

Nooit gedronken dus zeker proberen! Tarwe, zout en koriander, wat te verwachten? Licht wazige donkergele kleur, kleine witte schuimkraag, funky geur. Het eerste effect is echt raar, zuur, zout, bicarbonaat-achtig. Wilde zuurheid met citroengeur. Smaak is zurig maar toch moutig. Afdronk is kort en scherp. Zeker een aparte ervaring rijker geworden dankzij Ratebeer!

Clowdy yellow blond beer. Fresh, sour nose and taste. Sour, salty in the mouth. Refreshing tartness in the aftertaste. A great beer and for my the first time I drink a Gose.

First in the style. Contains wheat, salt and coriander, what to expect? Hazy dark yellow color, short white head, funky smell. First impact is really weird, sour, salty, bicarbonate-like. Wild sourness with lemony/soda upfront, really shaking. The finish is interesting instead where a solid malts aftertaste comes up to stay. Had several aspects in common with a lager, the sour beginning with a malty finish. I can’t say i ’ve liked this, it was an out of the ordinary experience nonetheless.
