2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
350 ml can bought at Jasons’ Food & Living in Hysan Place, Causeway Bay.
Clear golden amber colour; Thin head and white foam which fades in 30 seconds; Minimal lacing and fizzy carbonation; Smell of malt, rice, corn, syrup, light rubber and faint grass; Light sweet taste of malt, with strong rice, corn, light wet cardboard, light rubber, light citrus and moderate grass; Mid to light body, slighty oily palate; Mouth feel is rice-loaded micro, somewhere between premium lager and pale lager. Body is quite rich and filling - with rice and corn that is – with very low sweetness and very few foul taste. Not bad; Hoppiness is light grassy nose, light citrus in taste, and a good dose of more-than-micro bitterness for a low key and slightly astringent finish; Slightly Dry after taste, very easy to mouth.
Comments: This is labelled as a happoshu, but it tastes more like a premium lager with more malt than usual, but otherwise adjunct-loaded like other Asian macros This is a rare instance where a happoshu actually taste decent. Not bad to pair with Japanese or Asian meals.
