Brewed with refreshing aroma hops, the naming concept of the Summer-limited "Natsu Ichiban" beer tells the arrival of real Summer in Okinawa, the first region in Japan being so. The can’s cover art features gorgeous fireworks, a Summer tradition which lights up Okinawa’s night sky every year.

Ingredients: water, barley malt, rice, hops.

Can from a strangely set up convenience store in Tainan, Taiwan.
Orange gold and misty with vapours of proteins floating about. Head is just a mess of suds that daub a thick lace. Powdery grain nose with plenty of grassy hops, black pepper, fresh toasted bread and nutty rice. Quite malty, bready and toasty with faint peppery and earthy hops giving it the profile of a Münchener Helles. Quite chunky with a full feel and foamy carbonation. Ends malty and lingers long. A touch of berries adds fruit esters that meld well. This is a delicious lager. Impressed. Very sessionable! (35cL can, BBE 03/16, Puro [?], Hai’an road, Tainan, Taiwan)

Big foamy head. Colour is pale yellow. Nose is lager all over leaning toward malt. Definitely a Premium beer. More than just the average macro beer. Once it settles carbonation is at a minimum. Impressive at first sip but ends up light and watery. It’s a decent summer lager but at 5.5 you are better with a lower abv for the same consistency. I recommend Super Dry or Kirin Ichiban with a bbq in Shibuya, Taipei or heck even in your back garden in England. Living in Taiwan I see a ton of Japanese lagers and I can be quite critical. In the UK i’d be all over this beer. But if you live in Taiwan or Japan you’d see this as an overpriced and indeed overly strong lager that sort of lives in the middle somewhere. When I peruse the Family mart or 7-11 I look for a beer that is not as strong and is more consistent. Super Dry and Ichiban still win that race. If you get it also try the Hoikaido Gold ..very impressive summer beer ( not the Taiwan one but the Jap one). Overall..there are a million very good Asian lagers and this is solid if not unimpressive.

Medium palate, average taste. Very, very close in feeling to regular Asahi Super Dry.

Can (Tokyo). Clear golden-amber color, small steady white head. Aroma has light sweet fruity maltyness. Medium-bodied. Quite good maltyness for a bulk lager, but otherwise can’t agree earlier ratings. Sweetish rice, grain flavor. Not much bitterness. Even some nasty adjunct notes. Meh.

35cl can sixpack at Wellcome in Hong Kong. Very nice design, 590 HK$, 5.5%. Dark gold color, clear, big bubbly white head. Nose is somewhat hoppy. Aroma is refreshing, focusing on flowery hops, sort of american hop, floral, honey. Mild malts, rice, soapy overtones. Taste is sweetish with a bitter finish, texture tend to be oily, medium bodied. Actually, nice.

Can from convenience store. Thin powdered sugar nose, with aroma bath salts in the background. Medium straw color. Light sweet malty initial, some true bittering in mid, bready stuff, mild lingering hops in finish. Thin-medium body. Maltier and more full-bodied than their flagship lager. Not so bad.

An Orion & Asahi collaboration (not too hard as Orion is owned by Asahi), 5.5% served in a footed pilsner glass. It pours a deep gold with a thick foamy white head that leaves some soapy looking lacing behind. The nose is a bit earthy & malty with some sugary macro-lager sweetness. The taste is a bit rough, sweet, malty herbal green hop finish - it comes across more as hop extract than real hops. I agree regarding pepper and lemon notes. The body is slick but finishes with a watery feeling in your mouth. Not that bad but one was enough for me.

przyjemny, dość rześki zapach - słodkie owoce, zioła i lekkie cytrusy. kolor złoty, przejrzysty, piana nawet niezła. w smaku pełne, słodowe z wyczuwalną, wyraźną, ale dość niską goryczką. bardzo lekki posmak kartonu. do tej pory zdecydowanie najlepsze piwo z oriona jakie piłem.

Can. Sweet malty flavor, bread, lemony hops, grass. Decent bitter finish, peppery hops linger on. Darn well hopped for a pale lager. Crisp and drinkable, summery. A bit gassy and the grains are a bit harsh, but otherwise better than expected.
