Commercial Description:
"The nose on this beer is ripe and fruity with slightly vinous esters, married to interesting hop notes - the colour of a glorious red ruby wine."

Bottled @ Aarhus beerfestival 2008. More light bodied and English old than the Reserve. Aroma has caramel malts and smoke. Dark coloured with a beige head. Taste is sweet with smokey caramel malts. Nice.

Bottle @ Aarhus beerfestival 2008. Softer than the reserve. More english style old ale indeed. From cask this was delicious, but bottled is a not that interesting however.

Pours dark brown with light tan head. Aroma of smoked malts. Mildly sweet smoked malt flavor. It seems like this could be considered a smoked beer. Full body with minimal carbonation and a slick mouthfeel.

liked this very much. How is this not a smoked? There is smoke all over the place. Some peat as well. Medium sweet malt, and like red wine. Low carbonation and lightly spiced with an herbal, wildflower character. Thick and black. I found the alcohol to be entirely hidden and I thought this was about 1/2 has strong as it really is.

Pours near black with a moderate and short-lived tan head, yet plenty of carbonation. Big aromas of coffee, vanilla and dark chocolate with some caramel sweetness. Flavour had some sweet oakiness, like a cheap Australian chardonnay, roasted malt and chocolate. As others have mentioned, this tailed off badly with some limp, sickly sweetness in the finish. Not a patch on the cask version.

Aroma is creamy, caramelized malt, smoked grains. Taste is carbonation, smoke, roasted caramel, with kind of a club soda finish. Pretty decent. Love the smoke, wish this had a touch more age on it. Would like to try again.
