TikiE (360), Sylva, North Carolina, USA Jan 9, 2008 Great aroma fairly nice look, but tasted like burnt wood! When I took the first sip I was alittle taken back on what I just purchased. The fruits and hops give it a unique taste of burnt wood, but the beer does smell exactly how it tastes! DavidP (1743), Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA Jan 8, 2008 Dark brown body with a foamy light tan head. The aroma is of smoked fish and dark rye bread. Dry, smooth mouthfeel. Tangy roast malt, dried raisin, and bitter wood. This beer could use some more residual sugars. Maria (6056), Thisted, Denmark Jan 1, 2008 Dark brown with a nice head. The first flavours are coffee, caramel, chocolate, malt and a suitable bitterness. Even if it’s not as intense as a stout/porter, my thoughts are taken in that direction. The finish has a nicely balanced bitterness and notes of chocolate and caramel. llbjr77 (72), Largo, Florida, USA Dec 26, 2007 taste is very good with delightful smooth light palate after drinking; nice aroma, would improve slightly with a little higher alcohol content. shalloWMeans (160), Independence, Kentucky, USA Dec 23, 2007 Very dark brown in color, like the scottish wee heavy style. I had no idea that this was an old ale. The aroma is a straightforward scotch whisky with hints of smoke and peat and loads of roasted malt. Flavor is very complex, but very fresh and easily drinkable and refreshing. Surprising for the style. With as much complexity, you usually have to take your time. I did not... Loads of vanilla. GG (1612), NorCal, California, USA Nov 28, 2007 Nothing really special about this nice beer. A little bit of sweetness on the palate gives way to a smokey, chocolatey, carmelish flavor that reminded me more of a smoked porter than a Scottish Ale. Aroma is malty sweet, perhaps a bit fruity and gives you no early signs of what is to comes when the beer his your tastebuds. Very nice beer. maniac (2628), Richmond, Virginia, USA Nov 24, 2007 Slightly hazy dark brown body with a small frothy off-white head that quickly diminishes. Smokey and peaty aroma with light caramel in the background. Fairly strong smoke and peat flavor, mellowing into light caramel with some lingering smokiness. Medium body with medium carbonation with some slight carbonic bite. pforei (338), USA Nov 23, 2007 Dark mahogeny color. Roasted/smoky aroma. Earthy, peat moss flavor with caramel malt and a little chocoalte. A little salt and seaweed in the finish as well. Enjoyable
