JensenTaster (1585), Denmark Jun 7, 2004 (on bottle) Hail to the scotts!! My fave scottish ale and since I favorite scotish ale before anything else...
very powerfull liqurice and smoke to the nose. Although that lasts into the taste too, the fine hopping give the brew a fresh feeling too it. Big heath-aftertaste. A prie example of scottish ales. Thank you, Orkney Brewery. cb (809), Wheat Ridge, Colorado, USA Jun 6, 2004 Beautiful dirt-colored ale with frothy head. Smoky, dark corn syrup and brown sugar aroma. A lot of dark chocolate and just a touch of coffee adds another dimension to the malts. I love how they don’t go wacky and put a lot of hops to "add body." Very true to style, a lot of flavor for the low ABV. FROTHINGSLOSH (1961), GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania, USA May 21, 2004 Updated: May 20, 2006Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer pours a black color with a very small head. The scent is chocolate, coffee and molasses. The flavor is dark chocolate, coffee and a hint of smoke. This beer is a little thin, and the flavor is kind of disappointing compared to the scent. veronika (410), Sweden May 21, 2004 Dark brown, ok head. Aroma is toffee and butter. Flavor is licorice and hops. A somewhat dry mouthfeel. Crit (2399), New Westminster, British Columbia, Canada May 18, 2004 Brown, large tan head. Odd astringent nose.Lightly smoked malt flavor with whiskey overtones. Slight dry bitterness jfm (1694), Holbæk, Denmark May 16, 2004 Amber color with nice head. The taste is roasted malts with light notes of smoke. Not bad at all. rlgk (3377), Vårgårda, Sweden May 16, 2004 Updated: Apr 21, 2005Nice dark amber color. Wonderful aroma from toffee, malts and some vanilla. Flavor starts malty with tofee and caramel, then turns hoppy and bitter. A complex and very good beer. Jokes (1453), Chicago, Illinois, USA May 13, 2004 Deep red with a thick, light tan head. Lovely malt aroma with lightly roasted coffee, toffee, plum, chocolate, raisin and miniscule hops in the background. A moderate body that isn’t too thick but doesn’t leave the tongue laying in wait. Good malty flavors that really satisfy. Slightly roasted with toffee, ripe fruit, smoke and a touch of chocolate-tinged molasses. If you add a bit more hops, it would become FFF Robert the Bruce. I’m really beginning to love this style for session beers. If only it wasn’t so expensive...
