Wonderful aroma from toffee, malts and some vanilla. Flavor starts malty with tofee and caramel, then turns hoppy and bitter. A complex and very good beer. Jokes (1453), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | May 13, 2004 Deep red with a thick, light tan head. Lovely malt aroma with lightly roasted coffee, toffee, plum, chocolate, raisin and miniscule hops in the background. A moderate body that isn’t too thick but doesn’t leave the tongue laying in wait. Good malty flavors that really satisfy. Slightly roasted with toffee, ripe fruit, smoke and a touch of chocolate-tinged molasses. If you add a bit more hops, it would become FFF Robert the Bruce. I’m really beginning to love this style for session beers. If only it wasn’t so expensive... Syd (892), Waconia, Minnesota, USA

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Mar 14, 2004 Dark mahogany color with a nice cap of off-white head and a spot of lacing. The aroma has some light spicy notes with a waterfall of malty complexities: smoke, burn, chocolate, coffee, juniper. The flavor is also very well balanced with a full malty body with a smoky roasted finish. Mouthfeel is medium-full with a creamy tail. This was a good scottish, I liked it. Sweet malt aromas along with caramel or toffee, and a slight hop background. Roast malts come out a little here in the flavor, more toffee, slight coffee, and some hops. Big malt body, sweet palate and a finish of sweet alcohol. hotstuff (3175), Indiana, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Mar 14, 2004 Bottle. A very smooth drinkable Scottish Ale. It poured a medium sized creamy tan head that had fine-medium sized bubbles that were mostly lasting. The body was opaque, carbonated and reddish brown in hue. The nose was malty, smokey and some chocolate notes. The flavor was very mild coffee and some smokey and burnt flavors. The mouthfeel was silky smooth and a tad watery and thin. This was a medium bodied beer with good lacing. Recommended. guzzler67 (1277), Hanover, Maryland, USA
