Smokey, licoricey, burnt lumber flavors, maybe some peat flavors also. Medium sweet finish. Alot of flavor and body for a 4.6% alc strength brew. Wakie (612), Centreville, Virginia, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Sep 16, 2003 From all initial indications I thought this beer was going to be a thick malty stout (at least that's what the aroma and appearance appeared to be). The taste was shocking light and easy going. A bit of caramel and toffee. Quite nice. Slick (1962), Thief River Falls, Minnesota, USA

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Sep 1, 2003 A midly tasty ale, very true to the style. Pours a deep rich brownish amber coloring, with a very small but noticeable creamy head. Very smokey in the aroma and in the taste definitely, taste like a creme brulee, lots of caramel and coffee, with some doughy malty taste coming around later in the beer. Finish is lightly peppery and nicely bittersweet. wnp22 (682), Toronto (Roncesvalles Village), Ontario, Canada
