Bottle at La 100 de Beri, Bucharest, Romania. Black, opaque with a frothy white head. Slightly roasty aroma, with raisins and salt, oyster-stout-like. Interesting taste - sausage, iodine, dried fruit and dry in general. Smooth texture, full body, some chocolate in the finish.

3.8 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle. 4/5/13. Pours an oily dark brown-black with a thin light brown head. Aroma is brown sugar, toffee, molasses, dark chocolate. Smells chewy, syrupy and thick. Taste is dry, fruity, dark chocolate, some coffee, nutty, earthy. Some faint lacing. Light-bodied. Medium carbonation. I really like this. I wouldn’t mind a bit more malt or a higher ABV (must find Dark Island Reserve). Regardless, this is very drinkable and tasty.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Poured a rich ruby chestnut color with a good tan head and decent lacing. Aromas of molasses and roasted malt with some dark fruit and chocolate. Taste definitely skews towards the roasted malt with the molasses sweetness there also. Maybe a hint of smoke and that chocolate. Medium bodied with medium mouthfeel and low/medium carbonation. Solid Scottish or olde ale. Can appreciate the elements that malt bring to the beer.

2013 bottle to snifter. Color is dark brown and red. Aroma is very malty with banana peel. Taste is much the same with the malt flavor being predominant. Not too complex but pleasant and satisfying.

1.2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 3/20
A faint hint of coffee in the aroma. Followed by nothing. Flavour wise it tasted of nothing. The closest thing I can compare it to would be desalinated sea water. It kind of tasted like somebody had just collected the dregs at the bottom of a load of cans of cheap lager and poured them together into a single bottle.

UPDATED: JUN 23, 2013 Pours almost black with a latte coloured head which dissipates quickly. Quite thin on the palate and with noticeable carbonation. Coffee/bitter dark chocolate aroma and with a deep flavour that encompasses liquorice also.
