"The nose on this beer is ripe and fruity with slightly vinous esters, married to interesting hop notes - the colour of a glorious red ruby wine."

Tasted from tall brown bottle into nonic pint glass. Great artwork and design. It poured a dark reddish brown colour with thick, creamy, long-lasting beige foam, spritzy little bubbles and lots of fine lace. Beautiful appearance. Aromas of bread, toast, black plums and cherries, faint flowery and resiny hops. Flavors of malt, brown bread, caramel, toffee, dark stone fruits again, coffee and cream, dark chocolate, tangy hops balance, pleasant tartness, almost a faint sourness. Full-bodied, average carbonation, chewy mouthfeel, lingering, complex, bittersweet aftertaste. An exquisitely delicious beer in every way. Oh, how I long to taste a cask-conditioned version of this baby!

Bottle from Queens Plaza Wine & Beer 050216. This is a really good beer with a lot of stout like characteristics. Pours black with a tan head and has a flavour that is strong and robust. Possibly my favourite Orkney beer.

Aroma: dark, toasted malts, chocolate, light coffee, caramel, cacao. Appearance: black, medium, frothy, beige head. Taste: light bitter. Palate: light bitters continue, dark, roasted malts again, lightly acidic, at best medium bodied, some chocolate and some smoke flavours. Overall: very nice Old Ale, great malty aroma and palate. Bottle from Independent Spirit, Bath.

Mahogany pour with little to no head/retention. Very nice color though. Aroma is just incredible... chocolate-covered cherries. Flavor is malty with some roasted character, but slightly watery. Finish is slightly dry, mostly roast. Not as great as the nose would indicate.

500ml bottle at the Hoppy Pub, Thessaloniki, courtesy of Constantin. Black color with beige head. Malty aroma, fruity, pear, smoked notes, licorice, light chocolate. Sweet and light bitter taste like aroma. Light to medium oily body with soft carbonation.

Black color with beige foam. The smell reminds of fruits (dates). The taste is smooth, clear, a little roasty and a tiny bit fruity. Solid aftertaste.

Quite delicious old ale. Definite thorough malty background but lots of dark fruit flavors to back it up as well. Alcohol flavor present despite low ABV but maltiness holds this back from being too boozy. Almost like a deep dark beer-wine.

Bottle. Pours a dark brown, blackish beer with a minimal amount of beige head on top. Aroma of slight malts, some red ripe fruits and sugars. Flavor is quite full, considering low abv and carbonation levels. Has some malty, fruity sweetness, but also a slight bitter coffee note in the back. Lingers on for a while. Thin mouthfeel, full bodied, decent beer. Resembles more of a decent porter than an old ale in my book though.

Bottle. Dark brown blackish, tan head. Dark ripe fruits, sweet malts, chocolate. Feels rather barley winey, old aley judging by the nose. Med light, surprisingly thin body. Bitters, dark fruity sweets, figs, plums, slight bready malts. Quite well flavoured for the abv.
