"The nose on this beer is ripe and fruity with slightly vinous esters, married to interesting hop notes - the colour of a glorious red ruby wine."

Tasted from tall brown bottle into nonic pint glass. Great artwork and design. It poured a dark reddish brown colour with thick, creamy, long-lasting beige foam, spritzy little bubbles and lots of fine lace. Beautiful appearance. Aromas of bread, toast, black plums and cherries, faint flowery and resiny hops. Flavors of malt, brown bread, caramel, toffee, dark stone fruits again, coffee and cream, dark chocolate, tangy hops balance, pleasant tartness, almost a faint sourness. Full-bodied, average carbonation, chewy mouthfeel, lingering, complex, bittersweet aftertaste. An exquisitely delicious beer in every way. Oh, how I long to taste a cask-conditioned version of this baby!

Dark brown to nearly black. Thin tan head. Low carb with just a trace of acidity in the end. Malt and element of pear drop in the mouth with fig and red berry qualities. All pretty restrained and a little thin.I would have liked a bit more concentration though.

22.11.2013. Hieman paahteista makeahkoa mallasta, suklaata tuoksussa.

Dark bottle, Tesco, Edinburgh City. Pours black with a thin brown head, subsiding quickly. Scent is an excellent, full-bodied, strong cocoa and coffee mix, overpowering any other notes. Taste is slightly harsh (too cold) but smooth. Palette finishes with citrus hints, slightly bitter. Good.

Aroma: Wood up front that almost comes off slightly smokey; malt character is complex- roasty, a little chocolate, a touch of nuttiness. Appearance: Dark ruby with a foamy tan head that settles into a skin. Flavor: Wood stays throughout; nuttiness comes forth a bit more than chocolate or coffee; some light raisin comes in more toward the finish, which is mostly dry wood. Palate: Light body, creamy texture, flat carbonation, abrupt finish. Overall: Very nice beer that offers subtle complexities missing in so many American beers.
