Commercial Description:
"The nose on this beer is ripe and fruity with slightly vinous esters, married to interesting hop notes - the colour of a glorious red ruby wine."

Very dark. Very good. This has a really great malty, musty flavor. Can’t be beat.

Rather dark brown. Light smokey aroma. Flavor is rich roasty, smokey malts. Pretty good, nothing incredilble.

Lots of chocolate and bitter in the Dark Island. Not as impressed with it as I was Red or the Skullsplitter. Maybe I got a bad bottle. Will revisit this beer again.

500ml bottle. Nondescript dark brown. Meager but very finely beaded head. Rich chocolate, vanilla, toasted wood, brown sugar, and cognac aromatics. Velvety flavor... vinous but not sour... smooth coffee and blueberry flavors. Overall impression of charred marshmallows. Subdued earthy/smoked cherry phenols (brett?). Barely tingly with minimal carbonation. Light yet creamy mouthfeel features an oatmeal chewiness. Comparable to, but less sweet and more complex than a milk stout. Nicely done.

16oz bottle. Pours Dark Brown with reddish hints on the edges and a small tannish head. Nose is heavy on chocolate and caramel and coffee and a touch of smoke. The taste is quite similar to the smell. Very full bodied with a silky mouthfeel. Dark chocolate and caramel dominate but this is a very smooth beer. Reminiscent of a porter but without the bitter hops bite. This is a true malt heads dark beer. Its not the most complex but its very tasty. Well done.

This ale poured a deep black colour with a very quick living rocky, tan coloured head. To the nose there are scents of coffee, caramel, burnt malts and cocoa. First taste was smooth but a little watery with roasted flavours most prodominant.. Slightly nutty with cooffee notes the finish was just as roasty as the beginning. Palate is burnt with molassass and caramel flavours lingering.

Pours beautifully dark, tastes a bit too smooth if anything. The smoky flavor of heath and hops slide across the palate, giving you little to fight with. Not a bad beer, but priced like a great beer.

Toffee aroma, coffee colored, little head. Taste of smokey malts and toffee, smooth finish.
