Commercial Description:
"The nose on this beer is ripe and fruity with slightly vinous esters, married to interesting hop notes - the colour of a glorious red ruby wine."

I liked this dark beer. The dark ale pours deep from the brown bottle. The flavor is deep and woody with a taste that reminds me of sauna. A dark chocolate nutty flavor.

in the half-liter bottle from the Brickskeller. Pours black with a big creamy off-white head. Has a medium light palate with a vanilla aroma as the beer warms to room temperature. Has a big bourbon aroma as well. A good roasted flavor carries this beer throughout.

Very dark ruby, Slight head. Aroma is malty, with caramel, toffee, dark fruits. Taste is caramel, light maltiness very creamy, very light hops in the background with a hint of smoke. I would get this one again.

Dark amber color with ruby highlight. Moderate, onefinger-wide beige head. Sweet, dates with ruby port and some toasted malty accent on the nose. The main impression about the flavor is balanced dark malty sweetness, dried fruity esters like sherry soaked prunes. Some coffe dryness at the medium. Roasted, chocolate-malty finish with low hop level. Smooth body with mild, but warming character. My very first Old Ale, but i think this is a good example of the style. My cup of tea!

500 ml bottle. Pours a deep amber brown with a small creamy light tan head. Aroma of super sweet malts, malted milk balls, coffee, sweet chocolate, a bit candyish, Flavor starts with a soft dark fruit character, picks up some toffee and chocolate characters before getting a bitter chocolate note. A bit smoky. Finishes lightly bitter and earthy spicy. Medium body and an active carbonation Nice malty smooth and easy drinking.

br-lct, med co2,
too cloyingly sweet & malty for me, my tastebuds couldn’t get through to anything else.

Very dark brown, barely admits light. Thick and creamy beige head that settles slowly to reveal wonderful and persistent lacing. Roasted coffee, nuts and vanilla with bitter cocoa. Begins with black coffee then peanuts and pine, then finishes with creamy milk chocolate and a slight bitter edge. Nice enough body, slightly less than its Reserve brother. An amazing and desirable brew. Find it now.

Bottled 50cl. This is a great beer- with a huge amount of subtlety. Mocha and wormwood showing up in both nose and taste. Mindblowingly good!

Bottle into a pint glass. Aroma and flavor are both quite smokey and malty sweet. Not bad, but quite average.
