2.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
Sampled @ GBBF. Dark brown color, small beige head. Smell and taste malts, a slight sourness, roast. The sourness annoys me, shouldn’t be there I think. Average body and carbonation. Meh.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Scottish ale which, strictly speaking, falls under the old Scottish ’export’ (80/-) category. Light beige head, warm dark chestnut colour. Aroma of caramel malts, dried fruits and an obvious smokiness (peat?). Malty taste with dried fruits, candied dates, some coffee grounds, creamy mouthfeel, subtle smokiness, roasted bitter finish. Great Scottish ale.

Handpump, Railway Tavern, Lower Largo. Very dark (and mysterious!) good off white head, finger thick and lasts well. Smooth malty beer, obviously in good nick here, very nice!

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Cask at The Ferry Inn, Stromness. Pours almost pitch balck with a small weak tanned head. Aroma of dark, but weak roasted malts, some chocolate. Smooth and ceamy mouthfeel, light roasted malts with a weak sweet lactose note, nice and a good alternative to the bottled version.
