3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Hand-pulled halfpint in ’Chequers’ Oxford on 23rd Nov 13 during a mega pub crawl.
Black body with a good deeply tanned foaming head.
The aroma was all malt, chocolate, coffee and peat bog notes.
Taste wise it followed the smells: this is a rich, smooth Stout with a fair amount of sweetness running through it. The dry finish compliments the nutty hints within the coffee and chocolate flavours to give you a reminder that the brewer hasn’t forgotten to add some hops into his kettle.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20
Cask at The Falcon, Claphan Junction. Pours a dark brown/black. Not much of a head in this one. Aroma is treacle and licorice. Light to medium body, thin. Flat. There's a bit of coffee and licorice, smoke too. It's quite dry. Not great.

Cask, half pint at Guildford Arms. Lasting tan-coloured head to a jet black body. The aromas is roasted with an oyster like touch. Roasted,semi-sweet malty taste added by a salty touch. Malt bitter ending. Creamy in the mouth. Medium to thin bodied. Pleasing (Edinburgh 08.08.2013).

My favourite stout, I drink it when I was in Scotland (Fort-Williams) and I was disappointed when the 2nd days, Dragonhead was finished....

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Light on the nose, followed by a sweet and rich coffee flavour with little else. Creamy texture. Pretty inoffensive stout, but maybe not challenging enough on the palate.

1.8 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20
Pint at the Scotia bar in Glasgow. Pitch black beer with a loose thin tan head which disappeared after a couple of mouthfuls. (Nothing like the creamy example in the picture). Little aroma, and an intensely harsh flavour of Spanish Licquorice and carbonised organic matter. Ashy and unbalanced, all bitter bite with no smooth stouty dryness, or chocolate or fruitiness. REALLY let down by the thin flat watery palate, and a texture like cheap, flat, pop. I’m prepared to accept that it may not have been in prime condition, and will re-rate if and when I get another opportunity.

2.8 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Airport bar at Edinburgh. Nice looking stout. Served way too cold, so little aroma to speak of. Definite dark roasted and coffee flavours, but a little too much acidity. Dry bitter finish. Would like to try this where they keep the beer better.
