3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
First tasted this at the Anchorage Beer Festival, Troon in July 1991. Cask, handpump dispense. Dull black in colour with a thick off white head. Roast malt notes strong in the nose with chicory evident. Thin, oily mouthfeel and good lacing. Dark malts give a strong roast malt flavour with black coffee, dusty plain chocolate and roast grain notes present. Dusty hop resins impart a dry nutty texture to the short aftertaste. Finish is malty and roasted with toasted almonds, oak cask, burnt toast and liquorice evident. A decent session stout and well recommended.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Cask - The Alexandra Tavern, Norwich. Poured with a lasting frothy medium sized beige to light tan head & a dark brown body. Roasted malts, a hint of chocolate, coffee & liquorice on the aroma. Fair roasted tones, hints of coffee & some ashiness on the palate. Light to medium body & somewhat thin but to me, not quite the wet dishcloth that the other patrons considered it to be. Shortish bitterness with chocolate & a tangy fruitiness in the aftertaste. Soft & smooth mouthfeel.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Cask at the Blue Dolphin, Hastings. Pitch black in colour with a loose tan head; aroma of richly roasted malts, burnt sugar and a touch of smoke; rather thinly bodied, the flavour is dominated by the heavily roasted, almost charred, malts, and is dry and bitter with a little dark chocolate and strong coffee showing through towards the end. Good, but perhaps a touch over roasted.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
On cask at The Congress, Longton, Staffs. Looks good and very palatable, however, it does not feel as deep as many stouts. It tastes weaker than it is.
