Orkney Skull Splitter (Bottle)

Pours a clear dark brown. Aroma is primarily caramely malt with a touch of herbal hops. Flavor starts out with a burst of sweet caramelized malt ans slight fruitiness which gradually finishes on a drier note with the subtle herbal and earthy bitter hops. Full body with a creamy texture and average carbonation. Tasty.

Bottle. I would have classified this as a "Wee Heavy", but anyway a very tasty beer. Love the dark color and the aroma has a pleasant "comfortable" smell about it. Highly recommended and would have again and again.

It’s been a long time since I’ve had this - was a favorite waaaay back in 2004-2005 when this was actually sold in these parts.<BR. Poured out a clear, deep ruby brew with ample very light tan head that took a while to die down leaving some decent messy lacing. Very forward aroma: thick and caramelly, raisins, lightly toasted rye bread, dates?, spices, medium roast and mid range sweetness. The taste is also pretty good: Solid malts, caramel, dark fruits, cherry, chocolate, nutty and faint smoke. Good stuff but nothing to sell your house over. Fairly smooth, medium bodied, coats the mouth and finishes long with a welcome bitterness.

Poured clear red-brown with a small head. Aroma was carmelly-sweet. Slightly thick on the tongue. Flavor was predominantly caramel, but with an earthy undertone.

Nice pour from the EU sized bottle that ends with a creamy white head at the last second. Nice nose of malt and a nutty component that must be related to the various malts used in this brew and the yeast. I would love to know if this yeast is available for a home-brew version of this beer.No burn what-so-ever from the ABV. This drinks really nicely and is very consistent. This could be a go to beer for Sunday football games with a nice fire going and and the smoker outside slowly cooking the ribs and pork shoulder. The only problem is trying to pace oneself with such a drinkable and tasty beer.

The bottle says ale. This website says barley wine. All I know is this is a nice beer. Doesn’t make much of a head. Has a nice aroma but little body. Has an apricot aftertaste. Surprisingly easy to drink.
