COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Available filtered in 330ml bottles.
"Named after Thorfin Hausakliuuf, the seventh earl of Orkney, this reddish coloured ale has an intense vinous nose, is rich and satiny in the mouth with a long dry finish and deep rich fruity notes. Described as ’Satiny smooth in the mouth, deceptively light and dangerously drinkable’."

Thanks for sharing, Harold. This one was not what was expected. Aroma was almost buttery, like a red wine, with some light fruit, alcohol, and bread. Flavors were pretty similar with a distinct buttery/fruitiness and a pronounced alcohol flavor. Not bad.

Appearance: Dark copper-brown, with a dense off-white head. Medium amount of lacing down the glass. Aroma: Deep and dark. A slight bit of alcohol, but the main aroma is of raisins, caramel, malt, treacle, and dark plums. There is a bit of oakiness and a touch of butterscotch as well. Taste: Wow, this is nice! Very deep and rich malts, with a toffee and toast streak through the middle. There is a little bit of alcoholic hotness, but just enough to enhance the flavour, rather than detract from it. Again the raisins, caramel, treacle, and dark fruit make themselves known. Aftertaste is a "woody" bitterness with a little bit of smokiness. Very well blended with a lot of depth. Mouthfeel: This has a medium body with lowish carbonation. The warming effect of the alcohol matches well with the smooth creamy texture. Rich without being heavy. Overall: Very very nice! This was my first Scotch Ale, and i chose it without knowing how good it was going to be. It reminds me almost of a really rich and dense christmas pudding that has been marinating in scotch whiskey! One of my favourite beers that I have tried so far! Other Info: I picked up a second bottle of this about a month after I first tried it, and it was nowhere near as good. The sweetness wasn’t there, the bitterness was harsh, and the aroma was almost non-existant. I assume this must have been treated very roughly when being shipped, as it was nothing like the first.

Reddish-brown, thin head. Aroma of caramel, treacle, cereal, spice, flowers. Taste emphasizes the sweeter side - toffee, molasses, yum. Balancing bitterness but its mostly a sweetness story. Wonderful gooey mouthfeel. Fruitiness to it too. Not usually a scotch ale fan but this is lovely.

Pours a deep slightly hazy amber with a creamy beige head that settles to a thick ring and leaves some clingy lace. Nose involves some dark caramelized sugar, some wine-like grape notes, some figs and dates, stone fruit, and some alcohol vapors. Quite sweet, lightly bitter, and a touch tart on the end. Heavier-medium bodied, somewhat syrupy and sticky, fairly soft, warming, with a surprisingly drying toasty bitter-tart finish. A curious brew, like a beer-wine hybrid aromatically, very chameleon-like. Each sip brings out something different.

Pours dark with a minimal head.Aroma of chocolate, malt, sweets. Taste is earthy, slightly bitter, malty, molasses. Good for this kind of beer, which doesn’t happen to be one of my favorites. Glad I had it, won’t go searching for it again due to beer preferences.
