4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 574deadzone (535) - North Central, Indiana, USA - MAY 16, 2013
Pours a deep slightly hazy amber with a creamy beige head that settles to a thick ring and leaves some clingy lace. Nose involves some dark caramelized sugar, some wine-like grape notes, some figs and dates, stone fruit, and some alcohol vapors. Quite sweet, lightly bitter, and a touch tart on the end. Heavier-medium bodied, somewhat syrupy and sticky, fairly soft, warming, with a surprisingly drying toasty bitter-tart finish. A curious brew, like a beer-wine hybrid aromatically, very chameleon-like. Each sip brings out something different.

Pours dark with a minimal head.Aroma of chocolate, malt, sweets. Taste is earthy, slightly bitter, malty, molasses. Good for this kind of beer, which doesn’t happen to be one of my favorites. Glad I had it, won’t go searching for it again due to beer preferences.

For a beer called Skull Splitter, I was surprised to find that this was a rather delicate, somewhat fruity ale. It is very smooth and light, which is again surprising. A little expensive though.....

Pretty good but not mind blowing. I like the aroma more than the taste. It’s a bit thin too but overall I enjoy it.
3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Caytinator (576) - Tucson, Arizona, USA - APR 24, 2013
330mL bottle. A little hazy. Mahogany-brown color, light lacing, small persistent head. I agree with description insofar as the aroma and taste. A little astringent, which makes sense for an 8.5% slugger. I’m partial to the style, very good beer indeed.
3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 beermomz (20) - USA - APR 24, 2013
Poured a hazy light brown with a fairly large head that disappeared quickly. Aroma of caramel, malt and fruit. The taste was lightly sweet with a surprising hoppy finish. A nice change from some of the too sweet scotch ales I’ve had. I had honestly never heard of Orkney Brewery but was looking for something new to try and am happy to have found it.

Bottle from Malting Pot. Dark brown translucent body with puffy, oaky head. Nose is malty, roasted, nutty, spicy with chocolate. Taste is also roasted malts, with plenty of spice, some licorice flavours and plenty of alcy in the warming finish. Really good stuff. Definitely not a session beer.
