"Named after Thorfin Hausakliuuf, the seventh earl of Orkney, this reddish coloured ale has an intense vinous nose, is rich and satiny in the mouth with a long dry finish and deep rich fruity notes. Described as ’Satiny smooth in the mouth, deceptively light and dangerously drinkable’."

Pours a wonderful dark ruby color. Great frothy head which disappears too quickly leaving only a trace of lace. Smells are mild and light. Tastes are very floraly but yet mild. Just right IMO

Bottle at home. Three year old bottle. Pours a clear reddish brown color with a beige head. Sweet and malty aroma of dried fruit, caramel, cola, leather, alcohol, bread and black currants. The flavor is also pretty malty with more leather, wood, caramel and roasted malt. Has a soft and slick mouth feel, medium body and a balanced bitterness. A rich and easy-drinking ale at the same time. Wonderful aroma. I miss the same complexity in the taste.

Bottle. Mitchell’s Wines, Sheffield. Clear, reddy copper colour. Film and halo of lasting, white head. Fruity, toffee malts. Quite vinous. Some prune and prune juice. Has that stone fruit earthiness. Taste has a light sweetness running through a mostly tart, fruity dry, slightly boozy feel. Palate is a bit thin. Finishes vine fruit tart, and dry.

Wanted to try this one simply because it’s a beer from the Orkney Islands. I expected a nice tasting ale but I actually found it quite bad. The taste of alcohol is too strong and the beer itself is sweet in a bad way.

Bottle fron Nissin. Rich dark cereals and toffee, raisin, dark fruit, whiskey, low carbonation, dry finish. Rich and flavorful scotch ale, alcohol is well hidden, a true viking elixir.

Medium aroma with sweet malts, berries and syrup. Dark copper color with light natural white head. Semi-hazy liquid. Medium taste with sweet malts and hint of dark berries and sour notes. Medium taste spectrum and short bit sweet malty aftertaste. Balanced. Medium body with light carbonation. Overall balanced but too light for this percentage.

Bottle 33cl. (from drinks-of-the-world.de). Brilliant clear deep chestnut brown, small frothy beige head, recedes quickly, very light lacing; rich aroma, sweet roasted malts, dark fruits, brown sugar, light alcoholic; taste medium to heavy sweet, slightly bitter, roasted coffee, caramel syrup; full body, soft carbonation, sweetbitter aftertaste, roasted malts till the end, spicy notes, warming alcohol; pleasant beer though all in all a somewhat one-dimensional.
