COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Available filtered in 330ml bottles.
"Named after Thorfin Hausakliuuf, the seventh earl of Orkney, this reddish coloured ale has an intense vinous nose, is rich and satiny in the mouth with a long dry finish and deep rich fruity notes. Described as íSatiny smooth in the mouth, deceptively light and dangerously drinkableí."

11.2oz. bottle served in a Duvel glass. Poured a dark copper/brown with a little more than a finger of off white head. Rich malty aroma with caramelized sugar, toffee, and fruit. Full bodied with lots of malt. Molasses sweetness. There are some hops in the middle to balance the sweetness. Nice scotch ale.

11.2 oz bottle, poured into a snifter at room temperature. A: Pours a clear, deep ruby-russet brown, and forms a just-wider-than-a-finger head of very pale tan. Once the head collapses into a ring, it leaves some spotty but rather persistent lacing. S: Sweet caramel toffee malt swirls out of the glass, with just a hint of earthiness, and some mild dark fruit. T: Yes. Exactly in line with the nose. The flavors open with pure sweet malt, all caramel and toffee slathered and draped over warm toast. Towards the middle, a faint hint of black earth creeps in, and brings along some notes like leather oiled and polished with something that contains a dark fruit essence, like currants and plums. A more roasted, darker feel rounds out the malt profile as well as the beer progresses. The finish is a commingling of the malt sweetness and that earthen-clay bitterness. M: Surprisingly light-bodied for the flavor, this beer has enough carbonation to give it some mouth presence. A bit more stickiness would have been nice. O: A glorious wee heavy, and one I return to frequently. For a devout malthead, this beer is a dance of triumph along the tongue.

"this oneís got a bit of muscle behind it. Yuuuumy! Too much going on in the nose and palate to list (see brewerís description). Not the best, but not to far off. Totally enjoyable.

11.2 oz bottle poured into a shaket. Aromas of woody, fig, and rich molasses are noticeable. Thereís also a slight burnt character, berries, slight alcohol, grass, and a hint of dark spices. It pours a clear, oily, dirty / muddy brown color. Itís topped by a light tan / near white, soapy silky head that reduces down to nothing. The taste is a medium / medium high sweet with a medium bitter. The beer is oily and slick on the palate with a medium full body and fizzy carbonation. Burnt wood, molasses, a slight resin, grass, spice flavors fill the palate and spice and molasses finish it. Itís kind of clean but a woody, burnt, dry molasses aftertaste lingers.

Pour@5e Mondial/Mulhouse - So, Hugi-shared. Reddish orange, minimal head. Aroma of very ripe to mildly rotting stone fruit and figs: sherry, poire williams, general after dinner decadence in the 80s, somewhere well-off. Marinated pear on a soggy biscuit, yet somehow finishing clean and semi-sec, with a bitter fruit peel coda.

Pours a clear medium to deep amber with a short beige head diminishing to a thin cap, spotty lacing. Nose is toffee malt, dark dried fruit, and molasses - almost rum-like, with a slight hint of alcohol. Taste is medium sweet and mild bitter. Medium to full bodied, medium to low carbonation, and a sweet finish with mild alcohol warming. Not a big fan of wee heavy/scotch ales, so itís hard for me to be even-handed rating this one. Thereís a near-complete absence of hop character, and I can easily see something similar to this having been bittered with gruit in the past - but at least itís not peaty. Realistically, it integrates the high ABV pretty well, and the fruit/vinoous notes work fairly well. Pretty drinkable for a high ABV scotch ale.

Pours reddish brown with minimal head. Sweet toffee and raisin flavour, that appears again in the smooth flavour. Very nice ale.

From a 33 cl bottle. Poours a clear amber brown with an ecru head. Caramel nose. Flavors of caramel and butterscotch with some herbal notes. Smooth, somewhat sweet finish.
