4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
This does actually remind me of highland park. A really nice barley wine with a full body and some smoky notes. Starts out sweet and then arrives to a dry hoppy finnish. On the negative side doesn’t actually split my skull in any way.

Bottle from Galina, thanks!
Pours amber with a small beige head, leaving a thin film.
Aroma has sweet toffee sauce, vanilla, spice/pepper and slight alcohol.
Taste is as above but with some dark fruit drenched in it all.
Full body, soft carbonation, smooth mouth feel.
Warm after taste with slight dry woody bitterness.
Pretty good but could pack some more punch in taste.

Bottle from Argo’s, Stromness. Pours clear mahogany, short-lived off white head. Aromas are demerara sugar, fruity, mixed spice. Taste brings a herbal note. Medium body, sticky texture, sweet finish. Not bad.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours a clear reddish brown color with a thin off colored head. Aroma is fruity malt, figs, dates, plum, followed by a semi-spicy cinnamon, hop note that doesn’t have much bitterness to it. Taste is very rich, caramel, molasses, dark fruits, bread, and just a bit of a warming note that is either from spice or booze. Palate is interesting, somewhat thick and viscous going over the tongue but carbonated enough up front. Overall a good, solid beer, probably my favorite of the style.

A decent Scotch ale but not as good as the hype. The sweet aroma didn’t match the taste

Nice malty, almost burt cocoa, roasted malt, dark spiced fruit. Long lasting boozy finish.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
served ice cold... smells of dark fruits....doesn’t taste as strong as the alcohol is, just a slight astringency on the finish...smooth and mellow....taste is mild of dark fruits and malt...no hops..

Trying a leftover sip of a buddy’s so not getting a whole lot. Nut brown and very sweet smelling. Malt, candy, toffee, caramel and butterscotch pudding notes. Not bad but my taste was a bit flat and warm so not really sure. Definitely willing to retry!

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours a nut brown with lasting fine grained head and good lacing. Aroma is very nice with sweet, sugary, peaty malts with some alcohol. Keeps a good enough distance from being the smoky, meaty peatiness that I can’t stand. Taste is similar, with butterscotch up front, into dark fruit and slightly smoked peat earthiness in the middle. Palate thins and leaves a faded, milder malt aftertaste in the end. I’m torn on points, because it flirts with territory I don’t like in a scotch ale, but successfully avoids it as well. In the end it’s an above-average scotch ale for me, that I could see myself enjoying in the right mood.

Has a nice sweet malty aroma and a pleasant sweetness followed by a bit of heat in the flavor. I can dig it.
