"Named after Thorfin Hausakliuuf, the seventh earl of Orkney, this reddish coloured ale has an intense vinous nose, is rich and satiny in the mouth with a long dry finish and deep rich fruity notes. Described as ’Satiny smooth in the mouth, deceptively light and dangerously drinkable’."

One of my bigger disappointments of late, that being said it still was a decent beer. This beer poured nice and I thought, based off the nose, it would be a real winner.Unfortunately in my mind/mouth it is just above average. This beer starts malty and has a backbone of hops, but no complexity to it. It has no glaring faults but no amazing features either. As a wee heavy it is too simple and lacks a real depth or mouthfeel.

330ml bottle at home, from Robbie’s Drams, Ayr (bb 31 Aug 2016), sweet malty, esters aroma with the faintest hint of spice, deep brown with no head (filtered after pouring to remove colloidal suspension), fruity, esters, viscous, soft carbonation.

Poured from a bottle. Pours a medium caramel brown with a thin tan ring. Aroma of sweet malts, dark fruit, and a hint of spice. Effervescent full mouth feel. Nice tingle on the tongue and roof of the mouth followed by a mix of light spices and a warm finish. Not bitter or harsh. Hides the alcohol well. Nice lingering flavors that get better as it warms up a bit. Smooth and very enjoyable.

Pours a muddy brown, a thin quickly disappearing head. Muddy malty flavors, a bit of cola, semi-sweet finish. Nothing great.

Bottle - pours ruby with a short lived white head. Aroma is burnt sugar, dried fruit and a bit rummy. Taste is sweet dried fruit, bit of the alcohol comes through too. Rich creamy palate.

.33l pour from refrigerated bottle into wine glass. Clear, amber, moderate tan head. Nose is dark fruit, spice. Medium to full body. Taste mirrors nose, mildly bitter with a hint of a boozy finish.

Reddish brown with one finger of tan head. Too congested to smell much right now. What I can smell seems like dough and toffee. Medium maltiness, barnyard, dough, coriander. Fairly light bodied.
