pilsnerrogge (1609), Finspång, Sweden Jan 27, 2005 (Bottled) Nut brown colour. Nice head. Smokey aroma with notes of tar. Dry, smoked and peaty flavour with a touch of toffee. An excellent alternative to single malt whisky. TheBeerLover (1013), DC Metro Area, USA Jan 25, 2006 Skull Splitter pours to a beautiful deep garnet color
with a slight tan head that fades, and a soft
carbonation. The nose on this beer is very warming and
inviting with lots of big caramel, sweet malty, and a
touch peat smoky aromas, paired with some peppery
alcohol. The palate is rich and full, with deep
caramel and sweet malty flavors that coat the tongue.
Skull Splitter finishes with huge, complex, delicious
malt character up front, then ends with a slightly
cloying, peppery alcoholic burn.
At 8.5% abv, this is a potent brew that is meant to be
sipped and savored. Skull Splitter makes a wonderful
after dinner drink, and a great night cap brew. It
also makes a fantastic desert beer and would match
well with a rich and creamy NY Style cheese cake, or
with a cheese course of
sharp, aged, sheep’s milk cheese. LordErasmus (4), New Jersey, USA does not count Nov 9, 2007 My personal favorite, all time champion, which probably says something about my taste in beer. Its a malt wallop explosion in your mouth with a huge honey sweet kick and a clean finish with a lingering peaty smoked out aftertaste. Mix in one of the best names/bottle combinations of all time and we got a winner. I think I’m going to move to the Orkney’s just so I can drink this straight from the tanks. solifugid (10), New Paltz, New York, USA Jun 20, 2008 Sweet, fruity, lasting head, dark-reddish amber color, notes of fig and dark fruit. Doesn’t taste as boozy as I’d expect an 8.5% beer to taste. My favorite beer, by far. goldie99 (5), USA does not count Oct 15, 2001 My favorite scottish ale. Lots of chocolate and some carmel malts. Strong alcohol on the palate.
