iguenard (9), Ottawa-Hull, Quebec, Canada does not count Sep 21, 2006 (notes coming up) Boutip (1769), Gatineau, Quebec, Canada Sep 17, 2007 Bottle: Poured a deep cloudy brown color ale with a medium foamy head with some pretty good retention. Aroma of caramel and light toffee is dominating and quite enjoyable. Taste is dominated by sweet caramel malt with a light toffee notes. Body is quite full with some good carbonation. Well done for a style that does produce its lot of boring/bland beers. LadySusan (366), Ste-Therese, Quebec, Canada Dec 19, 2006 Very dark amber color with a good bitter taste. It has the sweet flavor of caramel. It has also a good malt flavor to it.. This place is on its way up as beers go. MartinT (4330), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Jun 2, 2007 My Bottom Line:
Frank caramel maltiness greets the nose, yet wooden, resinous English hops tend to dominate the fizzy, lean mouthfeel, as well as its finish. Red Ale, Amber Ale, English Bitter, whatever it is, it’s a good, humble pint.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A sheet of foam tops the dark red.
-The caramel maltiness leans towards chocolate at times.
-The nose is very sweet and fruity at first, and these predictions don’t actually carry through in the flavor profile.
-This is served way too cold.
-I agree with Beerbuzz, more malt presence would serve all of their beers better.
-Cask would probably serve this much better, but turnover on Orléans island wouldn’t be enough to assure a pint in good condition, methinks.
On tap at the brewery.
