Aroma has roast malt, coffee, cocoa and a trace of alcohol, darkest brown, red at the sides, small cappuccino head. Flavour begins with a huge roasted malt, cocoa and coffee, the alcohol is subtle, no easy feat at 10%. Full bodied, very well balanced, silky smooth mouthfeel, very easy drinking. Great!

Bouteille. Liquide brun presque noir. Présence d’un collet mousseux beige foncé. Aucune dentelle.

Bottle 500 ml
Appearance : dark brew , almost opaque black , light finely beaded , tanned beige top. Low carbonation.
Nose: mild yet rich , slightly creamy , off hint of vanilla , bit fruity , sweet brown sugar , raison and sweet berry. Light dryness finishing. Alcohol superbly covered and blended in.
Flavor/Palate : full bodied , soft rich , creamy follow up . Smooth chocolate , hint of licorice with honey fruity top. Slight hint of green hop at end. Balanced , rich , rewarding and very satisfying. Great ale.

Good beer all around, but i distinctly remember not liking the aftertaste. Had a black olive (i.e. kalamata) aftertaste to it as it got warmer. Had a bit of trouble finishing it all (in it’s 500ml format) because of it. Supposed chocolate and vanilla flavours; all I can say about that is that the chocolate is plausible (but that’s easy for stouts generally) but the vanilla was nonexistent for me (i forgot about its mention while drinking and saw it again post-drinking, and could not imagine where the vanilla was in there). Good initial taste, but afterwards I felt let-down. Would prefer a Dieu du Ciel stout to it.

UPDATED: MAR 10, 2010 Neat extra from glouglouburp- Dany is a little too nice. Pours a deep brown with a huge frothy tan head. leaves some awesome lacework upon the mf glass. Aroma of cocoa, chocolate, coffee, caramel. FLavor has a peculiar moldy dough cocoa like note to it. a little odd. Some milk chocolate and herseys syrup thrown in for good measure along with vanilla. Neat beer. pretty good. Like a chocolate milk, coffee, cocoa concoction. That weird doughy basement note actually went away as the beer warmed. pretty good. THANSNK DANY
