Lanchester (189) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - NOV 4, 2011
Pours a jet black topped with a deep brown head, spots of lacing here and there. Enticing aroma of roasted malts, coffee beans, and dark chocolate. Big roasted profile in the flavor carries through to an abrupt, slightly dry finish with pleasant burnt notes lingering behind. Very smooth on the palate and the alcohol is very well disguised; a great stout and seems to go down almost too easily!

Bottle - 500ml. Opaque black body with low carbonation and a thin brown creamy head. Good malty/hoppy aroma with roasty and chocolate hints. Alcohol is well hidden. Soft texture and robust taste that carries roasty and coffeeish notes. Ends with a long, warming bitter/roasty finish. Well done.

500 ml bottle from La Barik. Pours an inky virtually black brown with small light brown head. Sweet, rich, slightly roasty aroma with treacle, cocoa and even a little vanilla. Taste is lightly roasty with rich treacle, dark fruit and dark chocolate. Silky mouthfeel. Very nice.

THx to SlovakSniper for this brew. Popped a hard gusher but after managing to get it under control I was left with a massive, thick dark brown cap and a syrupy black brew. This has a wonderfully thick biscuity chocolate aroma. Almonds and mellow, smooth coffee, berries, goodness. I love this beer and I want to drink tons. Lightly hopped, chocolate and faint coffee I think, chocolate bittereness, dark fruit, salt, fruitiness, burnt malts, faint heat... more goodness. Full bodies and very smooth, perfect amount of light carbonation, a very long chocolate and dark roast after taste... I don’t see anything not to love about this brew.

Bottle thanks to Arch. Top pops and whoosh. Big gusher. Lost about 1/3 of bottle. Rest pours black with brown head. No noticeable signs of infection in nose or taste. Solid all around stout - lots of roasted black and chocolate malts, coffee beans and vanilla. Body a little on the thin side. Slight overcarbonation, but not as much as you’d expect given the gushing.

16.9 oz bottle. Pours a very dark black body with a small fizzy and frothy light brown head that retained as a thin covering. The nose is very roasty and slightly sweet with some dark fruits, lots of milk and dark chocolate, and a slightly earthy yeastiness. The flavor is a touch too astringent and burnt for me, but it has good depth and there are still some nice chocolate and coffee notes that make it past. I like the slight earthy flavor that lingers on the finish, it almost reminds me of that last sip of your coffee when it’s made with a french press and has those very silt like grounds. Medium to full bodied with soft fizzy carbonation, nice length to the finish. Overall it’s a pretty decent beer, especially after you get more accustomed to that slight astringency problem. I like it.

Couleur très noire avec mousse foncée et crémeuse. Légèrement "surette" avec un arrière-goût cacao. Agérable à l’oeil, au nez et au gout!
