7,5% ABV brew with the new label. Good stout, quite an imperial stout to me, but the simple "stout", or "extra-stout" (who really decides and who really cares?) could be right if it means a less thick and less foamy texture, a less complex taste, as in this one. Medium-intensity hop bitterness. Good, not great...

500 ml bottle shared with my dad 09.09.20 : Pour dense black small beige head with fair lacing. I get coffee, mocha and some roast notes. It’s a bit to fruity for my taste the finish is bitter and medium long. Body is medium to full. I would have like more sweetness (caramel).

Great aroma of roasted malt, cocoa powder, and some hops. Flavor is full of coffee, cocoa, and roasted malt. The bitter toasty finish really reminds me of st ambroise. This a great stout.

UPDATED: DEC 4, 2009 Pitch black pour with a brown head and fair retention. Aroma is dark wild meat, smoke and tobacco. Taste is roasted malts, liquory sweet at first with a lingering finale and well hidden alcohol. A very good stout.

Bottle: Poured a pitch-black color stout with a large light brown foamy head with good foamy head with good retention and good lacing. Aroma of light bitter roasted malt with some clear notes of liquorice. Taste is also dominated by black liquorice notes with mix very well with the roasted malt and light lactose-like notes. Body is quite full with good carbonation and no apparent alcohol. I must admit to having been very surprised by the liquorice notes but thought it provided an interesting take on the style.

Bottle. I wasn’t terribly happy when I popped the cap and was greeted by a massive explosion of pitch black beer all over my counter... I’m just glad I opened this in the kitchen and not the living room like usual. Very, very dark black beer with a stick dark brown head. Aroma is great... lots of sweet fudgey aroma, milk chocolate and other chewy dark malts. A touch of sweet fruit. Softly sweet with a long lingering cocoa finish. A bit of chewy roastiness on the back that works pretty well actually. Lingering soft roast.

A deep intense dark stout with a dark dark moka head. Very pleasant sweet chocolate and coffee aroma, fruity, lightly hopped, with light wafting alcohol. In mouth, a very rich stout, with good bitter chocolate, well balanced with light sweet notes, cold coffee, nice hops bitterness and roastiness. A very surprising and well done stout, veering on Imperial territory.
