Bottle: Poured a deep brown color ale with a nice foamy head with some good retention. Aroma of primary sugar with some weird overcooked vegetable. Taste is also dominated by gross sugar as well as this vegetable notes that didn’t agree with my taste buds. No important malt or hops could be detected. Body was about average with some good carbonation. Another disappointing maple beer that makes me wonders why brewers insist on brewing them.

Bouteille 500ml.

A clean reddish brown ale with a thin white head. A rather funky caramel aroma with light peated notes and butterscotch. In mouth, an interesting sweet biscuitty malt with light smokeyness. Oily mouthfeel. Medium bodied.

Bottle - 500ml. Limpid dark amber body with low carbonation and a thin, lasting off-white creamy head. Nice malty/hoppy aroma with maple and fruity hints. Taste is enjoyable but may be a bit too sweet. It carries some light roasty and smokey notes. It ends with a good bittersweet, warming finish. This is a well done Maple Ale.

My Bottom Line:
The shy nose does not necessarily announce the maple intentions, barely offering enough caramel inclinations to fit with the billing. This is a fizzy, toasty Amber Ale for uneventful sessions.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A sheet of foam covers the amber colour.
-This was served way too cold, again.
-There is a wooden hop presence, but it offers mild flavors and meager bitterness.
-The caramel is lightly fruity, a little too subtle to be real fun.
-Maybe this one was getting old?

On tap at the brewery.

Bottle 500 ml. Clear amber with a medium foamy white head. Aroma is subtle, malty, woody, hoppy, with maple syrup. Taste is woody at first, with toasted malt, hops, maple syrup and a bitterweet aftertaste. The alcool seems to be more than 6%. Mouthfeel is syrupy.

(Rating #1004)

UPDATED: JUL 10, 2008 An off-white ring of foam on top of a slightly cloudy brownish-red body. Sweet beer that only develops its flavour as it warms up. Straight out of the fridge it is rather bland but it gets better as it warms up. As expected the beer is sweet with maple sap flavour upfront but it is also surprisingly woody. I found the woody flavour a bit oaky giving the beer a slight fruity/sour edge. Claims to be smoked. Woody yes, but smoked? Barely. Doughy yeast. Unnoticeable hops and that’s probably a good thing with that kind of beer. The body and carbonation are suitably average. Simple straightforward drinkable beer that doesn’t overdo the maple thing. But to me beer and maple sap go together like oatmeal and sardines.

Bottle (500ml). Via trade with Viper666. Nice bright ruby-amber with a decent foamy-frothy beige head. Sweet malt aroma, mild woodsmoke, somewhat grainy and vegetal but not bad - a hint of maple sap as it warms. Very sweet taste - definite maple, only a hint of autumn woodsmoke. Light and syrupy body, not much carbonation, very sweet, no aftertaste, low alcohol presence. Actually a fine maple beer.
