12 oz bottle. Pours hazy copper with off-white head. Aroma is earthy malt with citrus hops. The taste is sharp at first, more of a carbonic deal than the hops, but the hop flavor comes right after it. Pine and grapefruit are all over the place with a kind of woody malt backbone. The finish gets a touch sweeter. Hoppy aftertaste.

Bottle. I bought this not knowing it was Magic Hat and boy do I wish I knew in advance. This shit sucked. Poor head retention, malty aroma and if the hops were the least bit bittering, it would be drinkable, but they’re not. Too sweet with a thin body.

A king of mediocre IPA, that is probably not an IPA at all judging by the alcohol content. Nothing really special, standard hoppiness and fruitiness, but overall just bland. Seems that the main appeal of this beer is the fact that it is organic, but who really cares. Most micros are probably mostly organic anyway. Bottle I had said that the abv was 5.6 though.

(Rating #1145)

Bottle, best before August ’07, split with Muenster. Pours a cloudy copper with a fair white head. The nose is pretty much straight grapefruit with some generic sweetness in the mix. The nose is pretty clean, though not very assertive. Still, it’s nice. The flavor has grapefruit again up front with thin, but serviceable malts. I get a little sweet pineapple flavor in this one, not a strong suggestion like a few other IPA’s, but some flavor note that arises in the mesh of hops and malts. Mild metallic notes pop up in the finish, but it’s not too bad. Overall, this is a par IPA. It’s easy to drink with no glaring flaws. Yeah, it’s a pretty average IPA.

Lighter amber, moderate head with decent lacing and retention. Aroma is grassy and spicy hops, a touch of fruityness. Light bodied with a bitter finish. zzzzzzz

Bottle from Capone’s. The pour is clear dark straw colored with a 2-finger head. I was surprised that the color in this was less copper than the common ale. The aroma is hopcitric, with some tangerine and mango hints, plus mild lemongrass and black pepper. The taste was hoppy, citric, with some pale malt, mango, honey, black pepper, and mild tangerine. Came off a bit like a hopped up pils.
