Oakes (8057), gone rambling, Vietnam Jun 10, 2008 Cloudy, dull amber. Slightly phenolic, earthy nose. Crisp, earthy flavour. Very organic tasting...that is to say a little bland. Dry finish with hints of mushroom. argo0 (6842), Washington DC, USA Dec 31, 2007 (12oz bottle) Lightly hazed light amber body topped by small off-white head. Aroma is medium sweet, dry hop orange/floral/dusky, light biscuit. Taste is medium sweet, orange/grapefruit, some peach/caramel, light lemon. Light-medium body, light chewiness. Pleasant beer, more along the lines of an APA. Cletus (5001), Connecticut, USA Nov 1, 2009 Pours copper with a white head. Smells citrussy and sweet. Tastes citrussy and peppery with a lightly bitter finish. DocLock (4648), Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 11, 2007 Bottle from Capone’s. The pour is clear dark straw colored with a 2-finger head. I was surprised that the color in this was less copper than the common ale. The aroma is hopcitric, with some tangerine and mango hints, plus mild lemongrass and black pepper. The taste was hoppy, citric, with some pale malt, mango, honey, black pepper, and mild tangerine. Came off a bit like a hopped up pils. muzzlehatch (4427), Burlington, Vermont, USA Jun 7, 2007 12 ounce bottle from City Market in Burlington, VT (April 2007) served cold from a pint glass. Well, this one’s a loser. I dunno what I expected -- most US organic beer thus far has been pretty tame and boring, and I’m not the biggest fan of Vermont’s loudest brewery -- but still, this was a disappointment. Poured amber-copper with a bit of lasting head, not much lacing....piney hops are reasonably pleasant in the nose, but some syrupy/honey touches are not....the body is sweet and dull, the hops are muted and stale, the body is watery and useless....incredibly bland, dull and really not very fresh-tasting, despite being a brand-new product. Magic Hat beers are often much better on tap, so perhaps I’ll try it again when I find it in a bar, but I won’t be drinking a bottle again anytime soon. jerc (3861), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Aug 19, 2008 2008-08-16. Dark yellow not quite orange body, with a small white head. Mild grainy aroma, touches of straw and hops. (5+) Low level citrus hops in the flavour, light astringency, mild grainy undertones. Average palate. An adequeate pale ale, a poor IPA. Bottle, Coles IPA Festival, Buffalo ClarkVV (3578), Allston, Massachusetts, USA Jun 28, 2007 Oh, this is different than the Common ale?? You could have fooled me. Maybe it had someting to do with the fact that there is zero malt in these beers and a uniformly nasty, stale, dirty hop flavor with lingering metallic flavors. Good lord, these were awful, even for MH bottled standards. Bottle consumed on 5/27/07. Rciesla (3500), Exit 15W, New Jersey, USA Mar 30, 2009 Bottle that was never poured in a glass, drinks like a lame caramel bodied ipa with not enough IBU’s to put forth anything i enjoy in an IPA. Simple and sessionable i suppose.
