COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
When it comes down to it, one of the most important aspects behind a good beer is the hops. Orlison Brewing Co. brewmaster Bernie Duenwald knows this, so he created Orlisonís IPL, an India pale lager crafted with more hops than one bottle should be able to contain. Brewed with 9 different hops added in three separate stages and a hefty dose of malt, Orlisonís IPL is a stand-alone powerhouse in the world of craft-brewed pale lagers. With the flavorful features of an IPA and the clean finish of a lager, Orlisonís IPL, is a sessionable beer perfect for lager lovers who know the difference between real flavor and overdoing it.

16oz can, no discernible date code. Pours a clear deep amber with a frothy white head. Aromas of caramel and baked bread. Not much hop aromas in the nose. Taste is semi sweet and lightly bitter. Flavors of caramel, biscuits, lightly bitter. Tastes industrial, not hand crafted. Heavily filtered. Force carbonated. Spritzey. Baked bread all over the place along with some floral hops. Finishes on a note of Czech Republic polotmavy. This should probably be reclassified as a polotmavy, seems spot on for the style and tastes almost identical to the top tier examples Iíve tasted.

Can:   Deep dark amber, large foamy sandy head, nice lacing, light to moderate carbonation.   Faint biscuit nose, pale breadiness, some mild grainy notes.   Imperial Pils.... really?   Rather biscuit on the tongue.   Has a hefty malt sweetness, some bit-o-honey like candy bar, with a touch of that grainy aspect I got on the nose.   Never would think of this as an Imperial Pils.   Not all that crisp, but it is clean.   Moderate to full body and mouthfeel.   A touch warming after a while.   Its like a big Amber with some aspects of some heavy Czech lagers.   Tiz okay, but gets to be a little cereal like after the finish.   Strange...

Pours a clear amber with a thick and foamy light-beige head. Aroma of piny hops, grain, slight hint of booze. Flavor is initially sweet and fruity, becoming more of a crisp, lightly sweet pils with extra bitterness. Bitter, slightly boozy finish. This might have been nice as a lighter-bodied alternative to the usual hoppy ales, but at 7 percent itís no more sessionable than a standard IPA.

16 oz can at home - Pours way darker then one would expect, red with an off white head. Sweet pine a little woody and some booze. Sweet upfront and sticky bitter in the back leaving a oily pine coating on the tongue, sort of unbalanced? I really thought this was going to be a refreshing hoppy lager but instead a sweet red that just kind of weird.

Neat beer from Dave. Aroma of piney hop and skunky pils. Pours deep bronze with a pretty big head. Taste is primarily bohemian pils with a metallic malt, skunky hop, and a nice pilsner yeast finish. Basically a hoppier pilsner urquell. I kind of like it but wish it were hoppier.

16oz can, seeking the strong lager style. Pours crystal clear copper with big rocky head. Very attractive. Aroma: biscuit, grass, some citrus, somewhat herbal, cracker. Taste: reasonably sweet, lightly bitter finish. Hop presence not as pronounced, either in flavor or bitterness, as I would have expected from the name. Wait ... Give it enough time and the bitterness creeps in and grows. Caramel sweetness. Light-medium body. Overall: Iím confused by this whole ipl classification Iíve seen around. Iím sure one of these days Iíll have one that nails it and it will all become clear.

Surprisingly dark. The nose is a little woody, a little grainy. In the mouth it is weirdly sweet and sugary with an oily texture. Some strange fruity flavor too. I really cannot say I am much of a fan. Glad I only bought one.

16 ounce can. The name of this beer changed. Anyway, pours a dark copper color with a medium white head. A sweet nose of caramel and citrus hops. The flavor is malty, clean, crisp lemon and orange peel, a bit of dusty caramel. Good beer. Quite bitter at times.

Draught. Pours a clear dark amber color with a moderate white head on it. Nose has NO smell whatsoever - I tried smelling this beer for a while, and could not get anything, even after it had warmed some. Taste was a bit bitter, though it finished like a standard lager. Pretty unremarkable, to me.

on tap, pours a lovely amber gold with a thick tan head that laces well. Nose is light but pleasant, malts, yeast, hints of grapefruit and pine. Very pleasant bitter/dry attack with a nice balanced malt, hop note. clean crisp finish.
