Hazy golden with foamy, over the top head.
Complex and rich aroma. Sour bread and white wine scent in it.
Wonderfully complex taste as well. Bready, spiced pears, flowers. Sharp edge from the carbonation and maybe an herbal hop. Wonderful. Refreshing and fulfilling.

Bottle. Outstanding. It took a while to check this beer off my list. Definitely an original beer. The head is white and thick. You could probably float a brick on it. Beautiful lacing on the glass. Aroma has that ’funk’ that is so welcome in a great Belgian. Taste is well balanced, with great floral hop flavor. Great beer.
3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Tricker (101) - Quebec, CANADA - APR 28, 2011
Bière blanche de 6.9 % d’alcool. Elle possède un genre de goût de savon. Arrière-goût bizarre. Léger goût d’agrume, surtout de citron. Bonne froide, mais un coup réchauffé ça se gâte.

Cloudy amber pour with an immense rocky light tan head. Interesting hard tp plave aroma. Smells similar to many sour beers I’ve had. Medium bodied mouthfeel with ample carbonation. Wonderful complex but subtle flavors with a dry finish. A unique and interesting beer.

UPDATED: JUN 16, 2011 Appearance: Bottle into a Westmalle Trappist glass. Pours a cloudy golden orange with the biggest, most dense head I’ve ever seen from a beer, leaving intricate lacing on the glass and quite the longevity. The head is a multitude of colors...some off-white pinkish/yellowish/goldish colors.
Aroma: VERY sweet, STRONG creamy scents of vanilla, overripe banana, and lingering strawberry. Scent of hops and the slightest tinge of booze. My brother remarked that it smelled exactly like wine. This one is very fruity smelling.
Taste: Vanilla, candi sugar, caramel and a very oaky flavour. Quite hoppy.
Palate: Light, dances around the mouth without a care and has a creaminess to it, which is kinda weird. Strong bitter aftertaste.
Overall: Rerate on June 10/11...this bottle was much better. Didn’t have that taste of cooked vegetables that went bad. I’m much happier with this beer this time around...very good stuff.

Pours a three-finger white head that takes forever to fade leaving a good lace. Hazy amber color. Strong carbonation and medium bodied. Nose is tart and woody, flavor is tart fruit with a lingering tart aftertaste, only an OK Trappist ale. Pricey at $5.99 for a 330ml bottle from Kappy’s Fine Wine & Spirits Peabody, Ma. Bottled on 4/22/2010.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 steinar (49) - rvk, ICELAND - APR 20, 2011
Pours cloudy brown, big lasting white head. Malty taste, slightly citrus/sour. Some noticable bitterness. Short finish. Palate is carbonated and dry. Overall an OK ale.

0,33 l. bottle - yes, surprise: The iconic bottle. From Vinbørsen, Copenhagen. Poured into a trappist glass. Orange-brown colour with a massive, white head that slowly shrinks. This is one of the most complex beers, I´ve ever stuck my nose in: Yeast is present, but also sweet fruits like apricot and raisins, only weak hop aromas. The aroma is very powerfull. Medium sourness in taste, but also some saltyness! Light body, but long lasting finish. This beer has a lot of followers, and no wonder: There is something mythical about it, every time you taste it, the beer brings something new to your senses. Given the taste, the history and the complexity of this beer, Orval deserves a high "overall" rating. I will be returning to this beer again...
