Light and dry and a nice balance of light hops and spicy notes. A very nice beer indeed. nbutler11 (741), Phoenix, Arizona, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Aug 31, 2008 Pours a hazy orange from the bottle with a soapy white head of foam. Balanced yeast, hops, and cinammon on the nose which carry into the flavor along with bitter green apple and faint malts. Mildly carbonated and dry moutfeel which sours as this beer warms. oteyj (724), Canterbury, New Hampshire, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Aug 30, 2008 Updated: Sep 18, 2009Pours hazy peach with nice lasting head. Aroma is citrus, clove, and tons of yeast character with orange peel being dominant. Flavor is citrus with excellent bittering and malt aspect- balance is exceptional. Palate is prickly from the carbonation, but nice and dry. Expertly crafted and balanced. ***September 18th Re-rate: Hazy amber pour with a massive white pillowy froth that lasts forever. Aroma is powerful- citrus and spice prevail with a slight funky horseblanket note and massive perfume. Quite complex and mysterious. Flavor is fruity with some obvious brett sourness that is mildly tart and ever so puckering. Slightly sweet but also slightly attenuated- strikes a wonderful balance. Excellent bitterness. Palate is full, effervescent, pillowy, and extremely quaffable. I need to be careful when I see this on shelves, for it always beckons me for more... A true world classic. craftycarl21 (521), South Hero, Vermont, USA

Pours a orange/red colour with a good size head that lasts, this is one of the best looking beers I’ve ever seen.
Very sweet and complex aroma, hard to define exactly what smells are hidden inside.
Also a very complex taste, can make out banana, vanilla and lime, goes down with a nice throat cleaning alcohol sensation.
One of my favorite Trappists. nqualls (1429), Nashville, Tennessee, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Aug 28, 2008 Bottle. Poured a copper brown color with a creamy foam head. Aroma of citrus and sweet malt. Flavor has same sweet malt and citrus, but with a vanilla hint. Very good. Pompey (42), Longmont, Colorado, USA
| 4.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Aug 26, 2008 It pours an interesting orange hued brown with a durable foam head. It has a unique aroma of grapefruit and a sweet mustiness that’s hard to define – band aids and wet dog come to mind, but in a good way. Dry to austere flavor that is complex with an abundance of grapefruit, vanilla, yeast and funk. Not sweet with a hop bitterness that is ever so well balanced by the other flavors. Many people who have never tried Orval are put off by its unique flavor. I find it addicting. Orval is really in a class by itself.
