4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Sammer (692) - Plano, Texas, USA - AUG 21, 2010
Dark copper pour from bottle. Huge, fluffy white head. Aroma is oranges and mint. Taste is fruity, with notes of pears and apple pie spices. Smooth finish. Really, really good.
4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 19/20 rubbishystuff (1202) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - AUG 20, 2010
More tart and hoppy than I expected. More complex than it first lets on. Good stuff. Serving: Bottle
3.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 goozen (1782) - Leiden, NETHERLANDS - AUG 20, 2010
Bottle:A special orange-colored abbey brew that tastes very dry and hoppy. Certainly this is a classic in the beer world.
3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 kwik-lime (597) - London, ENGLAND - AUG 20, 2010
Huge head on top of a copper coloured body. Hoppy but not that full-bodied, with citrusey notes that create a bit too sharp a tang to really be pleasant. OK but disappointing.
4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 hopsessed (37) - Kansas, USA - AUG 16, 2010
caramel, toast, bread, hay. This beer is a great representation of the trappist ale. Super dry. Super bready. A little spice. Great with hard cheeses.
4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 wnoble (637) - French Lick, Indiana, USA - AUG 11, 2010
Finally got around to rating this. Huge white head and could smell it when it hit the glass. The nose is amazing as always. Funk, and fruits. Taste is crisp and dry. Carbonated mouthfeel. One of my favorite beers.
2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 6/20 BillKismet (2649) - Seattle, Washington, USA - AUG 10, 2010
This beer has unimpressed me in the past, but this time I gave it another shot at a "first" impression and am logging the rating. Starts with an over-the-top beige foam tower filling 9/10 the glass then condensing in a more suitable copper body. Clean sanitized yeastiness in the nose, nothing to interesting--as if it was stripped of all yeast funk. The body again showcases this sanitized antiseptic flavor with hints of soapiness. Muted hops, mostly lacking in flavor. Dryish. Incredibly underwhelming and pretty poor in quality. Still, my rating is probably too generous.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 theSlipperyPen (213) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - AUG 9, 2010
A tall but quickly diminishing soapy head sits on a hazy amber ale. A little swish raises the head back to its original height. First to the nose is a funk of yeast and a champagne-like aroma of perspiration. Then a smell close to grape cola and a light spicing. Dry hops, lemons and apples round it off. Sweet yet tart in taste with spice and funk. Flavours of dried fruits and foliage with just a touch of juniper berries. Carbonation is effervescent; the body is medium thin. Finishes on the spice and funk, cleaning the palate with a tart lingering note. Well balance and so very drinkable.
