(Bottle at Hilpeä Hauki on 2008-04-25, I didn’t check the BBE date) Amber and quite clear. White medium sized head. Sour and fruity nose which contains at least apple aromas. Taste contains sour milk and hop bitternes. Some sweetness from malts. Mostly dry palate. Nice and different. holybrew (10), Bangalore, India May 12, 2008 Drank this at the hard rock cafe bangalore. Pours a beautiful orange with a half inch head. Aromas of citrus. Taste is very complex with the hops becoming apparent in the finish. Cannot feel the alcohol - excellent beer, totally unique. MissDolle (20), Odense, Denmark May 9, 2008 Pours unclear orange with a creamy white foam. Aroma and taste is fruity orange, malts, yeast and spices. Fine mouthfell. Thumbs up to the munks!! MatSciGuy (629), Rosemount, Minnesota, USA May 8, 2008 Updated: Jan 13, 2009[bottle] Pours cloudy, hazy gold with a huge, rocky off white head. Tart aroma is huge, and noticeable from a few feet away. Lots of apple, lemon zest, and some orange and grapefruit in there as well. Taste is quite striking. Very tart, with lots of citric hop notes, lemon, yeast, and a slightly underbalanced malt sweetness. Very light on the tongue with a remarkably dry finish. buzzoven (333), Japan May 8, 2008 Everpresent fizzy head..slight carbonation. Burnt caramel, wet hops, bitter tangy taste on the tongue. Complex. machfive55 (218), Columbia, Pennsylvania, USA May 8, 2008 The beer was highly carbed and the head lasted to the end of the glass. Aroma was slightly fruity, citrusy with little or no hop aroma present.
At first sip, I thought it was candy, it had a nice, sweet, fruity presence. Then as I settled into the beer the hop bitterness and yeast spiciness began to shine through.
There is a solid alcohol presence but it is not overwhelming. I found that after one beer I did not feel it all that much as I do with some of the stronger Belgians.
I thought this beer was a lot like Duvel, although without the same hop presence that Duvel has. The yeast character was very simlar in both beers.
