3.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20 MXD (302) - Gatineau/St-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec, - OCT 15, 2011Pours clear/hazy light copper. Extremely intense head. Doesn’t look really think, though. Good retention.
Aroma is mainly yeast -- apple esters galore! -- and herbal hops. Taste is more balanced than what aroma suggests : much more malty, actually. Really dry -- a summer trappist, actually?
Problem is : never, ever drink this one cold. Extremely thin body + a cabonation that seems to kick a lot at cold temperature makes if for an extremely bland experience. This is a beer that’s better drank over 10 degrees, and, really, dont waste time drinking it cold. So, a good hour after the first sip... much better, but still a bit too thin for my tastes. Overall --- it’s good, but I was disappointed.
4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 jjgmd (733) - Coral Springs, Florida, USA - MAY 19, 2013
Pours an orange amber color with a nice head. Nose is sweet with citrus and floral notes. Taste is subtle yeast with orange peel and floral spices. A well balanced Belgium that slips effortlessly down your palate, full of flavor and drinks easily. Not typical of the Belgian ales i have had, but than again it is not Orval. Finish is dry and short. Quaff Score 9 / 10

Pours a dark amber orange with a beige head and nice aroma of fruits, spices, citrus and hops. Taste is complex, of hops, yeast, fruits, spices, citrus, and some sweet malt with a dry finish. Very drinkable, well balanced and smooth, great Belgain
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 olliejobbins (327) - Bedfordshire, ENGLAND - MAY 15, 2013
UPDATED: MAY 16, 2013 330ml bottle. Pours a cloudy tanned brown/orange with a thick pillowy head that lasts forever. A fruity beer with caramel notes in taste and aroma. Mildly viscous in consistency. Poured a copper brown/ orange, very fizzy initially, but settled to be very drinkable.
3.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 Artichoke (17) - California, USA - MAY 15, 2013
Crazy 3.5 finger head. Nice aroma with banana yeast. Taste is odd. There is some sweet at the front but a not so pleasant bitterness in the back.
3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 14/20 KoNrRiI (223) - Århus, DENMARK - MAY 14, 2013
UPDATED: MAY 16, 2013 0.33 bottle. Humungous, off-white head, leaves some proper lacing, quite hazy amber color. Aroma is so to say Belgian: banana, clove, vanilla, some caramel, perfume, spices and an unfortunate alcoholic note. Taste is mostly bittersweet, somewhat floral, liquorice alongside, with malty undertone. At first appears overly astringent but frankly it just takes some getting used to. Medium body, nice slick texture and a soft carbonation. Finish is longish, a tad off-balance and sourish at the end but otherwise good. All in all it’s a good beer but honestly I expected more from the famed Orval.

Chiara torbida, schiuma molto abbondante, fine e persistente.
La trappista più beverina, amarognola e di grande struttura, decisamente buona!

33cl bottle. Its a special beer. It’s not like one of the other trappist beers. Its a little more bitter.
