In contrast to all the others, the Orval Trappist brewery makes only one beer for the general public. It has an intensely aromatic and dry character. Between the first and second fermentations there is also an additional dry-hopping process. Through this the beer acquires its pronounced hoppy aroma and extra dry taste.

November 1, 2012; 6.9% abv, 330 mL bottle, rock glass, BTL: 04/08/11 Aromas mostly of sweet raisin malt and a bit of booze. Pours a hazy copper with a nice large off white fluffy head. Sweet malts dominate. Raisin bread with some fruity esters. Finish is a smooth herbal with light spice. Thick mouthfeel that is extremely smooth. Delicious.

Grande birra!

The best beer (my favorite), really tasty, not too ’heavy’ and not too ’light’. It’s color is beautiful and so the froth.

Somewhere between bright amber and deep golden in colour. Pours with thick light-beige head which hangs momentarily before it begins to dissipate. Great nose, floral and herbs, sharp citrus and to a lesser extent honey and some yeast. The hops jump to the forefront but are balanced with the taste of orange, green apple, brett and spice with pepper and banana on the end. Finishes clean and dry with a subtle hop bitterness left behind. Active carbonation cleanses the palate and leave a great fuzzy feeling. Overall a very enjoyable, complex and unique Belgian Ale.

Shared bottle. Pours is light amber hazy with medium persistent white head. Aroma of lemon, leather, floral. Taste is light sour, light bitter with some acidic notes, nearly funky I’d say. Medium body, dry, sticky texture.
