In contrast to all the others, the Orval Trappist brewery makes only one beer for the general public. It has an intensely aromatic and dry character. Between the first and second fermentations there is also an additional dry-hopping process. Through this the beer acquires its pronounced hoppy aroma and extra dry taste.

Bret Power!

Bottled. Slightly cloudy, red-brown colour with a small off-white head. The aromas and flavours are both dominated by fruit and spice, like a spiced, mixture of stewed apple and pair. Slightly sour and acidic, with a very dry finish. Good.

Aged 15 months prior to tasting. Amber orange with greenish shades. Incredibly thick ivory head. After ageing for more than a year, the secondary aromas (still present, such as fermenting bread, yeast, yogurt, cider) yield way to fragrant white flowers. Noticeably sour, but never to the point of being unbalanced. Dry, bitterish, and long-lasting. The after-taste is reminiscent of bitter herbs. So different and so marvelous.

3/26/15 (Bottle) - Very nice dark amber pour, solid carbonation and nice thick tan foam head. Aromas included citrus, raspberries, yeast and hops. Excellent taste matched the sweet aromas and included a nice dry finish. Smooth, strong and pleasant going down. Over all excellent beer.

Something went wrong with my bottle for sure. It’s definitely bad. Aroma from the bottle is wild sour. From the glass it’s less wild, more fruity and malty with a notes of champagne and white wine. In general aroma is nice. It’s also super over carbonated. Gushing from the bottle, enormous head. The bear itself is amber color, almost clear. The mouth feel is wrecked by the carbonation, it’s to huge. Taste has almost nothing in common with belgian ale. It’s completely dry, no sweetness at all. It’s sour with a tiny touch with wooden barrel note. It’s a pity that I wasn’t able to try a proper Orval.

Super.

0,33 l bottle from EDEKA Mohr, bottled on 18/2/2014 (so just over a year old). Clear, amber with a large, foamy, slowly diminishing, tan to white head. Lovely and intense aroma of white grapes, fermented apples, gooseberries and citrus with gentle but not unpleasant medicinal notes. Nice, sourish taste of fermented apples, citrus, white grapes and hints of candy sugar, followed by a long, medium bitter and very dry finish. Medium body, creamy and at the same time spritzy mouthfeel, lively carbonation. Very special but also very good. The acidity still leaves some space for a balancing fruitiness in the aroma and a gentle bitterness in the finish.

Mild taste with hints of caramel. Old dryhopped. Grassy/hay type. Good foam with hazy orange colour. Good carbonation and present but not strong after taste.
